I have a update for everyone.
I will be keeping this page open for now. However, you all know I haven't been able to train for a long time now. And it doesn't look like the situation is changing any time soon. The heat makes me really sick. It's with a heavy heart I must let everyone know that until my daughter decides if she wants to take this on. We are closing shop. I have had to open up another business front that I can do with my Addisons disease. I now own a wash and fold. I will continue to work with my clients that we have now. I will not be taking on new clients. I love all of you and my heart will always be with the dogs. My life is taking on new chapters and I am along for the ride.

So chomp went to the vet. I asked to place him on some anxiety medicine so that our training can work better. His brain is in so much overdrive outside of the house. Sometimes dog really do need a little more help to go along with the training. Do be afraid to ask your vet if you think your dog may benefit from the extra help. She did say it can take up to 4 weeks for it to work. But we will see. I will update yall as time rolls on. Btw... Chomp is 6 years old now. He is becoming a old man. Hahaha.

Still working on this new training technique we learned.
Just a reminder for everyone. My daughter does all the hands on training now. I am there to help if she needs it. However, she is a natural at this new technique. When she gets old enough she will take on this business since I can no longer train like I used to. I keep it up and running for her.
I will be changing up the website soon to reflect the new changes. Also, she will be doing day training from now on so prices will also reflect that. She will start by teaching the dog to have a calm mind before any other training will continue. This will better allow us to see if your dog has what it takes to become a service dog along with the temperament test we have always done.

I need to give everyone a update now that I know thisbis going to be a long road to recovery. I was getting my business back up and running, then I was attacked by a family members dog. My foot is hurt really bad. This happened 2 weeks ago as of tomorrow. My physical therapist has said that she thinks the dog hit a artery in my foot or collapsed the vein when he bit me. I have been unable to walk and still can't. I will be going to a vascular surgeon to see what he can do to fix it. It is also infected and I am on my 2nd round of antibiotics. I will heal eventually but I have had to put reopening my business off for the moment being. I am so sorry. Training dogs is my passion and I have been waiting to get back to business. I guess the universe has other plans for me right now. If you don't hear from me for a while, this is why. I am not scheduling appointments at this time.

Yesterday I was working with Team Bash. This pup is so big and so head strong to. This was his first training session. This is a dog that will take multiple sessions to learn soft pressure training. I am excited to see his progress over the next few months. He will go from anxious to calm. His dad is committed to helping him because that's what you do when you love your pup. Go Team Bash!

I am excited and I know yall will be to. I am revamping my dog training business. Do to my health I had to stop training. But now that things are settling down and the cooler weather is here I will be able to train again. I will be taking a dog aggression course in February. I am excited about that. Chomp will not go chomp chomp anymore. Hahahaha... this does not mean I will be taking on agression cases. I will still be doing service dogs and general obedience. I will train in the cool months and Kloie will train in the hot months under my direction. She is learning new training techniques now. ❤️ we will be focusing on having a calm dog and we will be making house calls. Prices will go up, especially for house calls. The prices of gas is crazy and leashes, treats, ect has also went up in price. So I will have to charge $60 a session for meet ups and $80 a session for house calls up to 10 miles, and $100 a session for house calls up to 20 miles. This is still a great price considering the other trainer around here charge $120+ for a one hour session at their facilities. I hope yall understand and I see yall soon. I will let you all know when we are ready for our re-grand opening. I have to get Kloie all trained up first.

Service dogs end up going out to eat with us. And let's face it, we have all dealt with the others that complain about a dog being in a food place.
Proper manners in a restaurant for a SD include not sniffing anything or trying to go to others. Keeping all 4s on the floor unless alerting you. And laying under the table to be out of the way. We don't want a waiter or waitresses tripping over them. Or other guests either. Your dog can not eat dropped food. (This is why under no circumstances do you ever feed your SD or sdit people food!)
Out of sight out of mind. Avoids Conflict. So many times going out the servers didn't even know my Sdit was with me until I stood up to leave.
Even if you SD or sdit has perfect manners you might still have that person. 🤔 That's when we educate. Explain your dog's tasks and how important it is in your life. The more education we put out there the better off we are leaving the 🌎. 😉

With the cool weather I am able to get out and train with some pups! I am excited. I've been waiting for this! We are meeting at the park in bacliff for training at this time. Let me know if you need to book some sessions! This is for basic obedience lessons.

*All service work will continue as normal as we can't pause or change their training.

Let's talk about public bathrooms.
Normally I tell clients to use the handicap stall if it's available. But let's face it.... someone is always in there when we need it. So you have to teach you SDIT to be comfortable in small spaces. Ariel like to peak her head out of the little stalls. And I am ok with that. As long as she doesn't break her stay or sniff people as they pass by.

This week take your SDIT into a small stall and practice.

Ariel doing some training at church. We have been working on her not touching people when she sniffs. She did good when my friends passed by. She knows these people and I let them pet her a lot so not sniffing them is hard for her. But she has officially learned. 😀

Today I did mat work with Chomp while I ate my lunch.
He has gotton where he begs very bad due to others in the house feeding him people food while they are eating.
Sometimes because I don't share with him he stands and barks at me. So, this is his new daily training while I eat.
I also preach to my household about feeding dogs people food at the dinner table and while your eating.... it's a NO NO... and for service dogs... it's a no no to give them people food period.

In the meantime while I get my humans in check, I am getting Chomp in check to.

I haven't felt good the last two days. I tried to take it easy today. The only thing I did was water therapy. But mental stress uses cortisol to. So when I am under alot of mental stress I have to take extra medication. Unfortunately there is no home testing for cortisol to ensure I am taking enough steriods. So it's really a guessing game game until some scientist makes a test like a glucose tests but for cortisol. Tomorrow is another extremely busy day physically and mentally. So send me some positive juju and prayers.

This is my every morning when I wake up. She really loves me and it shows. ❤️ There is no love like a dogs love. She hugs me like this and gives me kisses every single morning as soon as I get up.

Today while I was having to take a break from my workout, I decided to start wheelchair training Ariel and Chomp always chimes in. Hahaha... For her first time training with this chair she did amazing. 🧡

Here is a unedited video of me working with Ariel on how to walk with me while I am using a cane. She is wearing a head halti because I have conditioned her to it. I only train with her with it on so she knows when I grab it, that we are going out. I don't always put a vest on her because she gets hot easy. So I choose to condition her a different way.

Ariel gets so excited once she goes through the front door and outside. So we are just working on her excitement level going through the door.

Practice, practice, practice! Always start in the least distracting area and then move up.

This is Kloie teaching Bandit "leave it". This was his first session with leave it.

My daughter Kloie is learning to take my place. Here she is teaching Bandit the "touch" command. This command is a important first step in teaching a Service Dog in training how to turn on lights or push the handicap buttons to open doors and much more. Bandit will continue to work on this new command for the rest of the week. Let's us know if we can help you!

Working on training outside with lots of distractions. She really doesn't like to shake but she did it :-) Today we are working without head halti or prongs.

This little pup here is pretty smart. She found her mom for me inside home depot, and she is starting to herd around her mom to keep people away. We are working on having a good heel. Look at the progress this team is making!

Our Story

I began training dogs in 2010. I had a special interest in Service Dogs due to having two special needs children. I decided to open Happy Pals Dog Training and charge a minimal fee because there are so many people and dogs that truly need help and just cant afford it. This is why I charge a rate of $50 a hour. I use positive based training methods such as a clicker and treats. I will use a head halti if the situation calls for it, but only then. I do not work with animal with behavior issues, I will refer you to Tail to Tail Dog Training for aggression issues.
