This is absolutely devastating. Please donate if you can. I have personally worked with this rescue many times and she is wonderful. I haven't been over there in more than a year, but she had adopted at least 10 ducks from me. Rip babies. :( poor Lisa, I cant imagine, and now she has to renovate her property in her grief.

Puffy Duck needs your help!

Puffy was abandoned at Encanto Park. When he was rescued he had a respiratory infection, bumblefoot (staph abcesses on both feet) and a horrible mite infestation. I was able to cure all of that at home with my supply of medications and expertise, but one of his eyes is permanently damaged even after irrigation and three weeks of antibiotics. So I am taking him to the vet to see if he has a cataract or a fungal infection and whether he needs surgery or a different medication. Regular veterinarians don't see ducks, only exotic avian vets, so it can be quite pricey (not to mention my bird rescue saves lots of animals and it all adds up) so we are asking for donations. Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic can be called and any amount of funds added to the account for Emily Apsell, pet name "Puffy the Duck." The Pekin Inn isn't closing forever. I'm majorly downsizing (yes. Again.) to focus on some issues with my kids, and therefore closed to intakes for the rest of the year. If you see me posting photos of animals on Facebook such as my lizards, Baboo, my chickens and bunny and ducks please know those are my personal pets, my foster fails. Theyre not new or available for adoption.

You can still reach out for bird advice, networking requests, and possibly help with transport. If you want to donate or volunteer, here are some amazing rescues you can do that at! In ethical consideration I will not be accepting donations while I am closed to intakes.

East Valley Wildlife / Crystal's Critter Haven Critter Haven in East Mesa she is an incredible rescue who takes in thousands of animals and so many varied species. She is a wealth of knowledge and works so hard. Shes trying to build an extension and needs donations!!!

Liberty Wildlife Liberty Wildlife in Phoenix always needs transport, orphan care and hotline volunteers. They have raptors guys, soooo cool. Plus you get to hang out with some awesome people: Debbie Ordorica Alex Stofko and so many others

Always Sunny Sanctuary in Stanfield aka the bunny guru!!! She's overwhelmed with dumped pregnant and medical strays and needs new kennels! Astronomical vet bills. Please donate. And bunny fosters! Always bunny fosters.

KALM Sanctuary And Rescue in San Tan Valley. She takes in animals NOBODY else wants. Elist dogs, medical fragile cats, disabled ducks, baby pigeons. She's a hero. She needs BOX FANS desperately and donations donations donations! Pigeon seed. Puppy pads. Exact Formula.

The Gud Ark Animal Sanctuary in Maricopa
She needs netting for her pigeon aviaries! She needs volunteers! She not only works with all kinds of animals even large farm animals and disabled ones, but has programs for kids too. Therapeutic animal programs and volunteering. Summer camp. Field trips. She works with at risk youth, foster youth. She's an absolute gem!

Kim Vallen who owns A Tropical Concept in Phoenix. She needs people to come adopt her foster parrots! She has an incredible assortment of exotic plants for sale. Shes got this oasis jungle in the middle of down town Phoenix, go visit her! Support family owned not Home Depot for your plants. Pet all her birdies.

We will be closed to intakes for at least a year. Going through some family stuff and a home remodel and just can't keep up. If you'd like to adopt one of my remaining fosters here is what's available:

What to do if you find a lone duckling:



A couple words of advice...
Mallards are a protected species and shouldn't be kept as pets, but if you'd like a pet duck I've got some eligible domestic sweeties up for adoption at my rescue The Pekin Inn

The only rescues still taking in waterfowl are East Valley Wildlife and I think Fallen Feathers. Liberty Wildlife is not.

In the meantime baby needs to be kept warm. Put him in a box with a towel over a heating pad on low. A little stuffed animal or mirror will comfort him. Offer him a little dish of shallow water to drink. No swimming. He will actually catch a chill and drown without a momma duck.

You can buy baby duck crumbles from Tractor supply. In the meantime he can have crushed up plain cheerios or oats, cooked peas, small kiblet dog food soaked in water or parakeet seed (make sure birdseed is small enough he won't choke).

Keep an eye out for momma. She may come back. Your smell on him is not an issue, thats a myth. Please don't drop him off at a lake, a mom who isn't his will likely reject him and he will die.

Found: Whitefaced Cockatiel, quiet and likely female. Found near Lindsey and Guadalupe in Gilbert,AZ.

She had been self harming hence the surgical collar. The vet put it on. She is safe at a rescue and not looking for a new home, just her family.
