I've been doing drop in pet sitting for Sloan and Stevie while their family is away at Disney World. Stevie, the bigger pup was pretty apprehensive of me the first day but the second day she was all wiggles and crying out of excitement when I come by! I LOVE these moments when a dog decides to trust you, it's so heartwarming!

I've truly enjoyed watching this sweet little duo and happy I get them until Saturday evening when their family comes back home! They're going to be beyond excited to see their family! 😍🐾💛

🚨PSA: Your reactive dog is not a "bad dog", don't let anyone tell or make you feel differently!

Dog reactivity is not aggression, these are two very different things. Dog reactivity is very common and is often confused with aggression because the dog is more vocal in certain situations. Reactivity simply put is, your dog is overreacting to a particular environment or stimuli. The overreaction comes out as barking, jumping, and leash pulling to get closer to the stimuli.

I'm happy to report, dog reactivity can be eliminated with proper positive reinforcement training methods! 🙌💛

Keeping up with your dog's training completely pays off in the end! This is my dog, Quincy out in Santa Cruz on the beach. To the right in the video, there are a ton of off leash dogs playing on the beach which is a distraction and curiosity for him. I taught him to stay close to me, recall, the word "hey" is his interrupter, and the phrase "this way" is for him to change direction. In this video, I used the word "hey" and "this way" because I didn't want a wave to push him into the rocks and possibly get hurt. I'm not using treats as we're passed the initial training of these behaviors but I definitely did use plenty of treats to get the desired behaviors. I NEVER used any shock, choke, or prong collars to get any of these behaviors. I used tight management of a long lead to practice recall, and treats to reward the behaviors I want. Sniffing is also a reward I used often as he LOVES to have a sniff sesh during his training.
