Here’s how to keep your equine friends hydrated and healthy: 1️⃣ Warm Water: Horses prefer water between 45-65°F. Use a tank heater or add warm water to encourage drinking. 2️⃣ Salt or Electrolytes: Offer free-choice loose salt or add electrolytes to their feed to stimulate thirst. 3️⃣ Moisture-Rich Feed: Soak hay or add water to grain to increase moisture intake. 4️⃣ Fresh & Clean Water: Check water troughs frequently to ensure they’re clean and free of ice. 5️⃣ Regular Monitoring: Watch for early signs of colic, like decreased appetite, pawing, or restlessness. Urban Livestock & Equine Veterinary Services provides complete medical and surgical services for pet pigs of all sizes: potbelly pigs, miniatures, teacup and micro and every other kind of pet pig. Mobile services are available for pigs, however some surgeries and other anesthetic procedures will need to be performed in our clinic. Therefore, it is important that you have a way of transporting your pet pig if necessary. Even the largest potbellied and miniature pigs (upwards of 200 pounds) can be transported in a large dog kennel.
