Who won this race: the Western chuckwalla or the desert tortoise? 🦎🏁🐢
TRICK QUESTION! Friendship won!
(Let’s be real though, the chuckwalla actually won. They’re much faster than desert tortoises.)
Alt-text: A short video of a desert tortoise and a Western chuckwalla sharing a synergistic moment. The chuckwalla rests atop the tortoise's shell as it trudges through the sand. The chuckwalla then jumps off its tortoise friend and climbs a rock to find an ideal sunning spot.
What a dignified gentleman! 🎩🐼🍴
#DidYouKnow: The red panda has 6 digits on its front paws. Red pandas have a nifty adaptation of a false thumb. They have evolved to have an enlarged wrist bone that helps them climb trees and grasp food with their little red mitts!
Alt-text: A short video of Raj the red panda showing off his pseudo-thumb’s ability to grasp food. He holds on to an herbivore biscuit in his front left paw as he nibbles away on his healthy snack.
#FunFact: Raj the red panda’s favorite food is grapes! 💗🍇

Banjo loves a hose shower! He’s always quick to come over when his keepers turn on the spigot.

Radiated tortoises are herbivores. Here at the Zoo, their diet consists primarily of various leafy greens and nutritious herbivore pellets …and apparently grass whenever they find themselves in a field of it!
