Santa came in the form of staff from Costco in Santa Cruz and Sutter Oncology and Hematology this year! 🎁

They brought boxes and boxes of food, treats, litter, toys, and MORE to make sure all the shelter animals were well stocked in the things they need and love.

Huge thank you to all of these wonderful people -- your holiday spirit filled the air! 🐾🙏

Our Pet Food Pantry elves (volunteers) have been busy! 🎁

Santa's mighty helpers gathered in their workshop to create 150 holiday gift bags, full of toys and treats, for the pets served by our weekly Pet Food Pantry. Sunday's patrons were all so surprised and thankful to be bringing home some extra special presents for their pets! 🐶🐱

More than 3-months ago, Fawn and several of her friends came into our care They had been rescued from a hoarding situation, meaning they lived in a less-than-desirable situation during their formative years. After arriving, they clung to one another physically and emotionally and seeing their bodies tremble, paralyzed with fear, was heartbreaking. But little by little, they started to awake to their new world, wanting to participate and explore.

🧡HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS -- Name Your Own Adoption Fee!🧡

This is Miklo. Just voted most improved in all the ways!

Miklo takes personal development very seriously and is out there doing the work. He came in as a boisterous pup whose joyful nature overwhelmed the masses. But with the incredible help of his "Circle of Friends" and a teensy bit more maturity, this 1-year-old mix of a mutt has made incredible strides!

His weekend foster dad reports that he's been great in the home, is now consistently pottying in nature, and only chewing on things that he's been given permission to. Miklo's dog greeting skills have VASTLY improved and he's much more polite and even downright well-behaved! He loves to play and is now doing playgroup with a multitude of dog buddies with joy and running into all sorts of dogs out in the world with ease.

Miklo loves all people, always has, but is learning to greet with more restraint and politeness. Sometimes he still gets a little too overtaken with excitement and jumps up, but we get it. He's still just a babbyyyy.

There is NO reason this beautiful adventure pup hasn't found his forever yet. Let's get him there in time for the holidays! Come in and meet him during Browsing Hours (Wed - Sun from 11am -5pm).

This year, our big idea may be simple, but it embodies the very spirit of who we are and what we do for homeless pets -- we Provide More Than Shelter!

At the Santa Cruz SPCA, we welcome all kinds of needy dogs and cats, including those who might be at risk in other shelters. That said, we have a finite amount of space within our four walls.

Our foster care program is a great example of what providing more than shelter means to us. By opening their hearts and homes, our extraordinary foster families allow us to expand our lifesaving capacity and open our doors to even more pets in need of a second chance.

🥰HAPPY TAILS🥰

A sweet little update on Chili, a senior Chihuahua who went to go live with a wonderful man and his senior pittie...our hearts are melting. 🧡

"Here is Chili, adopted Aug. 7, happy in his new home. The three of us have twice daily walks in a nearby park, and at night we hang out in the bedroom. The two dogs enjoy the routine, and look forward to two delicious meals a day. Dogs are the best."

😻HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS - Name Your Own Adoption Fee!😻

This is Sun Bum. Loves tuna and shoe strings. And would prefer her new home to have plenty of both!

It doesn't take much to win this 1-year-old tabby kitty's heart! Her foster reports that she settled into their home quickly and was using the litterbox, claiming the couch, playing with toys, and sniffing out all the tuna in the house almost immediately.

In her past life, Sun Bum was indoor/outdoor and lived with young kids and other cats.

This friendly and affectionate kitty now awaits her permanent place to land and promises to give you all her love! If you're in search of what we've just described, please let us know and we'll connect you to this little lady!

🎅HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS - Name Your Own Adoption Fee!🎅

This is Westley. He was assembled using only the most handsome parts.

This 1-year-old Husky is a young buck looking for the party. He's not one for couch lounging or Netflix and chill unless you've run a couple miles first. Westley is an adventure pup through and through -- he's got a nice jacket for the weather and likes to feel the breeze on his face.

Other than enjoying the playtime he gets with other pups during weekly playgroup and his daily volunteer walkies, shelter life is just not enough for him. He's a man of the world and wants to be out in it. Westley is friendly with all the people and isn't bothered by crowds and gathered people -- he even enjoyed being a spectator to three little league games going on at once!

Because he was originally found as a stray, we don't know much about his indoor etiquette, but has ridden nicely in the car a few times! While here, he's made some dog friends and enjoys romping around and wrestling. It's also been noted that he likes to chase the kitties and other small creatures -- what a Husky surprise!

⛄️HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS SPECIAL - NAME YOUR OWN ADOPTION FEE⛄️

This is Milo. Doesn't want to tell you what to do but adopting him would be the best decision you've ever made.

And, because he is an adult cat (6mos and up) he qualifies for the Home for the Holidays Special through the end of the year!

This gorgeous orangie is a little over a year and very social and outgoing. He's a fan of pets, cheek rubs, and the toys. Oh, does he love the toys. Milo also enjoys our indoor/outdoor catio, especially because there is so much fun stuff to see!

He originally came to us after triggering some allergies in his previous home, so he's looking for someone who's histamines are more on the hista-his side. He has lived successfully with other dogs and cats, so we are optimistic around how he might do with some fur buddies (with proper intro, of course).

❄Home for the Holidays - Name Your Own Adoption Fee!❄

This is Norman. Paused very briefly for a photo next to his ball, but had to get going.

That's so Norman, he's got places to be, balls to fetch, dogs to wrestle, people to greet. Ending up in a shelter after being found running errands on his own is really clogging up his schedule. Norman is seeking out a new family with which to collab in life's adventures.

This athletic 2-year-old Catahoula hound mix (guess) is about 50 pounds of lean muscle. He's a strong boy who has a lot of go -- and he's also goofy, loving, playful, and sweet. Norman has a bunch of dog buddies that he crashes around with during playgroup and a bunch of people buddies that he enjoys snuggling with.

We don't have a history on this boy, but what we do know, we love! And he qualifies for our holiday adoption special. Come meet him during Browsing Hours (Wed-Sun from 11am-5pm). 🐶
