Happy 2nd Birthday Katie! She came to us just over 6 months ago as a foster and stayed much longer than planned (officially adopted about 3 months ago). Some pictures of her enjoying her new life.

The pack wandering down by the river. And fun news - Katie is officially now part of the family after just being a foster for the last 3.5 months. Koda said we couldn't give her best friend away, so she's staying. Molly (the other foster) met her likely new mom this week too, but she won't leave us for a few more weeks because of holiday travel.

A bit of sad, but also some happy memories and change too. Today is one year since I lost Bear (can't believe its been that long already). So I'm sharing my last photo of Bear, the last one with both her and Ellie, and then the craziness I have for now.

Ellie is still going steady, keeping the house in check like Bear did with her, and sometimes demanding attention from strangers at the park. Koda has some of the fun annoying quirks Bear had and sleeps in Bear's spot in bed. Katie has Bear's cuddle (and demand for love) traits. And Molli has Bear's chicken tendencies about random things and holds her paw up the same way when she gets worried. All of them combined still don't offer all Bear did, but they keep little memories of her alive every day.

Molly and Katie (the fosters) are making good progress. Koda really enjoys having them around. Ellie likes that they take the brunt of Koda's crazy too.

Making progress with getting Katie and Molly (fosters) settled in. Katie is doing great (except being very afraid of unknown people). Molly is coming along well at home but is very afraid of going out and about. Koda is super excited to have a play buddy in Katie and Ellie enjoys that someone else is taking the brunt of Koda's annoyances. Molly is less excited by Koda's incessant energy.

One week into being a four-Berner household. Katie is really settling in well and has become quite the (typical Berner) needy/clingy girl, trusting me (but not other people yet). Molly is getting comfortable at the house, but isn't really ready for the world. Koda is excited to have others to annoy (I think Ellie appreciates them taking some of Koda's energy too).

So Friday night I heard a couple rescue Berners may need a foster home and by mid-Sunday they were home with me, Koda, and Ellie. Both were skittish (had been outside-only pups) and are pretty skinny, but we're making progress. Molly (~2.5 yo) opened up pretty quick while Katie (~1.5 yo) took until this morning before I could even touch her (but by day's end we got tons of pets and she'd come set her head on my lap asking for more). Both still have a ways to go before they can go find a permanent home, but Ellie and Koda are accepting well (in fact Ellie may be happy that Koda is annoying them instead of her 🙂).

Starting the Fourth of July with an early beach trip to beat the heat/crowds. Even with still water, Koda still hasn't fully accepted that water is fun, but the beach and dogs are at least. And a couple random park photos thrown in.

So very out of the blue this week we have a new furry family member. I heard about a 10 month old girl that needed a new home and couldn't pass on her. She's been with us since late Tuesday but we made it official today. Welcome Koda to the family! Ellie is adjusting fairly well and I like to think Bear was behind the rainbow welcoming us to the park yesterday.

Fun facts:
* Bear and Ellie's dad is Koda's grandpa (so I guess she's Ellie's niece)
* Koda has decided she's a lapdog already but she won't get on furniture unless it's directly into my lap
* At 62 pounds and 10 months, I'm guessing Koda settles in about Bear's 80 pounds
* "Koda is a modern short form for the Native American name Dakota, which translates to 'ally,' 'friend,' and 'little bear.'"
* Koda is also a bear in a Disney movie, like Queen Elinor (Ellie) - apparently I stumbled into a theme despite never seeing either movie

After getting more than a third of our annual rain in the last three days, the park was more than a bit muddy even though the rain paused for a bit. So, we turned the skate park into the dog park for the evening. Ellie had some fun with change of scenery.
