“My name’s Copper! I’m a Hound Dog!” 🐶

This handsome three-year-old boy arrived at CHHS in September after he was found wandering as a stray on Bull Pen Road in Cashiers. We have truly enjoyed caring for this sweet pup these past couple of months. Copper is loving and affectionate, and he loves playing with toys as much as Disney’s Copper loves playing with a fox.

Like a good hound dog, Copper can be vocal, but that’s just because he’s calling out for some attention and a willing and eager play partner. Copper also enjoys a vigorous walk on these cool fall days and he has already learned how to walk like a gentleman on a leash. With all these positive traits we believe Copper will make an ideal canine adventure buddy for some lucky family.

Copper’s adoption includes already being neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and a free after-adoption training session with our professional dog trainer. HERO PET SPOTLIGHT: DEBRA – We rescued beautiful Debra and her siblings after they were found abandoned in Sylva. Debra is a year-and-a-half old and she has a bit of, as they say… “tortitude”. 🙀 Debra will let you pet her, although she is somewhat wary of humans at first introduction. We feel this tortie will “come out of her shell” 😻 with lots of love and patience in a gentle, calm environment with another feline in the home.

As a longer-term resident CHHS Hero Pet, the adoption fee for Debra is only $50, which includes already being spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, tested negative for FeLV, FIV and heartworms, a free starter bag of food, and a free ID tag. HERO PET SPOTLIGHT: GEORGE – George was found wandering as a stray on the trail to the Yellow Mountain fire tower. A hiker who crossed paths with this handsome pup brought him to the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society. George did not have a collar or tag and was not microchipped, and we didn’t receive any reports of a lost pet who matched his description. Time passed, and no one stepped forward to claim this sweet boy.

We estimate that George is about four years old. He is full of affection and energy and he absolutely loves going on a new journey, whether it’s a ride in the car or a walk on our new volunteer hiking trail. And as you can tell from the pictures, George is quite the poser! 🤩

George likes everyone he meets but he’s a little selfish when it comes to attention, food and toys, so we believe George would thrive best in a home where he could be the only dog. If you live an active lifestyle and are looking for a lifetime adventure buddy, then by George, we have just the canine companion for you.

📣 HERO PET SPOTLIGHT: GEORGIA - Georgia has been on our mind quite a bit lately. After six months in our compassionate care and just “graduating” to longer-term resident Hero Pet status, this gorgeous gal deserves an extra-bright spotlight. Georgia is a one-year-old female Domestic Shorthair mix who was found as a stray earlier this spring and brought to our no-kill shelter for safe refuge.

Georgia is a “greeter”. She wanders right up to our human guests and starts purring and performing figure-eights around their ankles. She is laid back for the most past, but she does demonstrate times of typical one-year-old playfulness. Georgia gets along with other cats and all humans, and if you shake a bag of treats in her vicinity, Georgia will “come as sweet and clear, as moonlight through the pines”. 🌕🌲

🐈‍⬛ HERO PET HAPPY TAILS! 🐈‍⬛ We’ve been caring for sweet, shy Dinah ever since she was found as a stray in Franklin a couple of weeks before Christmas… in 2020! 😲 After 1,781 days 😮 of compassionate care at our no-kill shelter, Dinah has an awesome new mom and dad, a loving forever home, and she is now officially a Cashiers Cat! Happy Tails, Dinah! 💖

🐕 HERO PET HAPPY TAILS! 🐕 If Buffy had been with us for 19 more days, she would have celebrated a one-year anniversary at CHHS. But we’re certain that Buffy would have preferred a forever home instead of a milestone anniversary, so that’s what she received! 💝 After 346 days of compassionate care at our no-kill shelter, beautiful Buffy has a wonderful new dad and a loving forever home in Cullowhee. Happy Tails, Buffy! 💖
