This is a post I have been putting off for as long as I could, until we knew for sure what was going to happen.

As many know, my amazing better half, had a stroke in December. This has brought his military career to an end, and he has now been medically retired. While he tried hard to find a new career here in Savannah, unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be.

With that being said, The Salty Paw Will continue to serve my amazing clients until November. That timeline could change, depending on the sale of our home. All appointments, as of now, will be maintained.

Should things change, I will be reaching out to those affected. I am working on finding another groomer to recommend, for those who would like help in finding someone new.

We have loved calling Savannah our home, and I have so enjoyed taking care of every single person who has graced my salon. It’s truly been a pleasure, and I will miss everyone!

So SCCPSS has announced they will be closed for both Tuesday and Wednesday, and with erring on the side of caution, I will be doing the same as well.

I would so much rather be safe than sorry, and keeping both my own safety as well as that of clients, in mind, I will be reaching out to all of my Tuesday and Wednesday appointments to reschedule.

Pending any flooding issues, I do not expect to have issues with my appointments for Thursday and Friday, but will reach out if we have any issues.

Thank you to everyone for understanding and please stay safe!

I am watching the reports and keeping an eye on the path of Tropical Storm Debbie. As of right now, Wednesday appointments may be rescheduled for next week, depending on any changes in the projected strength and path.

I will be reaching out directly to all of my clients, whose appointments may be affected.

Please stay safe!

Good morning!

A couple of updates for all Salty Paw Salon clients.

I will be starting my maternity leave on September 16th. I will be checking all texts and voicemails a couple of times a week, and try to get back to everyone within 48 hours. Pleade understand that it may take longer, depending on if I am in labor or not. I will be returning to work the week of October 14th.

All October appointments will be getting a 10% “We had a baby” discount, as a way to share our excitement with everyone.

I am still accepting new clients, but with a weight restriction of no more than 60lbs. This will be in effect from now through the end of the year. If you have an exceptional well behaved big dog, please don’t hesitate to reach out, as I am willing to consider those over my weight-limited on a case-by-case basis.

Thank you to all of my amazing clients for the support this year! I know it’s been tough economically for many, and the continued patronage is appreciated.

Merry Christmas Eve from the Salty Paw crew!

Thank you to all of my clients who have allowed me the privilege of styling your pets this last year! It’s been a joy to get to know each and every one of you 🎄

**If you are an in-between home grooming service client that comes for nail trims, ear cleaning etc on your short-haired low-maintenence dog or cat that you bathe at home: this doesn't apply to you personally 😊. BUT PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST if you are so gracious as to want to refer potential clients to me 🥹❤️❤️❤️**

Beginning 2024, I will no longer be able to accommodate ANY clients, including friends or family, that do not adhere to an 8 week or less schedule for grooming services. No exceptions!!!

My main reason for instilling this policy is my mental health. Grooming neglected dogs takes a HUGE toll on my heart and state of mind. It crushes my soul seeing dogs in pain from severe matting, untreated ear infections, ingrown toenails, fleas, caked on feces/urine and the rashes, bruising and irritation that come from a grooming uncovering all of these things. Not to mention the fact that dogs who go several months between professional grooming appointments, are generally fearful and uncomfortable during the process because they're not used to it and it'snot part of their regaular routine. It kills me when dogs don't feel they can trust me or aren't given the chance to learn to trust me by coming on a regular schedule...I am extremely adept at reading their body language regardless of how YOU think they feel about it. I pride myself in building and maintaining genuine, loving bonds with every single pet that steps paws on my table...and their people too. 🥹 Most of my clients drag their owners in the door to see me, and THAT is what I live for. ❤️

The second reason I am sticking to this policy is that this career is my ENTIRE livelihood. I depend on the income that my services provide. We ALL have bills to pay, on a chedule, and a lifestyle we've created and wish to maintain. I need to be able to count on my clients showing up for their appointments so that I can budget my personal expenses. Being profitable does NOT make me greedy. If you are a current client, you already know that I put my entire heart and soul into your pet's care every single time you entrust me with them. They love me, and I love them and I take so much pride in that.

There will be a $5-20 price increase on all of my services beginning January 2024.

Thank you for understanding and for allowing me to do what I love and live a life I love. ❤️❤️❤️

Next time you are booking a grooming appointment for your dog and the groomer is booked out, whether it be 2 to 3 week or 2 to 3 months, I want you to remember a few things:

~Groomers put up with a lot.
~We are overworked.
~We are generally and genuinely underappreciated.
~We push our bodies to the brink.
~Our work is intensive and laborsome.
~We can only groom so many dogs in a day.
~We are artists with a special skill that not everyone has.
~A lack of prior planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on our part.
~It is hair. It grows back.
~Grooming is expensive. We already know it costs more than your haircut. You do not get your entire body shaved and you certainly do not poop on your hairdresser or bite them.
~There will never be enough groomers to keep up with the amount of dogs needing services in this country.
~If you treat your groomer poorly, they can and will fire you as a client. 💯
~We treat your dogs like our own and love your dogs like our own.
~We cannot ever promise you that nothing bad will ever happen. That isn't a promise we can keep. But we CAN promise to always handle any situation that arises appropriately and quickly.
~This career takes an immense level of passion and compassion.
~Grooming is a fulfilling and wonderful career full of beautiful moments.

Most importantly, I want to remind you that you can be the bright spot in that groomers day. YOU can be the difference between them being accused of being an awful person and being the person to make them smile. Please be kind. Your groomer is doing the very best that they can every minute of every day.

Feel free to share ❤️🐾✂️🐩

I realized I haven’t taken a moment to introduce myself on here.

My name is Amanda and I am the owner and sole employee of The Salty Paw.

My love for dogs started at a young age, with my family breeding and raising various hound breeds for hunting, as well as owning Labrador Retrievers. We also imported, bred, easing and developed Trakehners and Dutch Warmbloods for dressage, and had a horse on the 1996 Olympic team, as well as National Young Horse Champions and multiple USDF Horse of Year awards with various horses throughout the years.

As an adult, I got into breeding and showing Cane Corsos, as well as Miniature Poodles, which is how I became interested in the more detailed grooming aspects of pet care.

I stopped showing dogs full time two years ago, so I could focus more on grooming full time, and have been amazingly blessed with some great learning opportunities under successful pet groomers and salon owners.

I still breed and show Chinese Cresteds, and have greatly enjoyed my son’s involvement in showing as he is getting older.

Grooming is my primary passion these days, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow, as well as providing a luxury experience to all of the dogs who come to my salon 🐩🐾
