I shouldn't even have to make this post, but for the love of animals don't message us and rip us a new one for not responding on your timeline. Don't tell me that bc I didn't reply you had to take your animal to a shelter where it was going to be put down. Don't put that on us. Harsh reality, we can't save them all. But we can all do our part to save them.

It's just me and Cooper, and we're trying here y'all. We both work full time jobs. We both are pinching personal penny's to keep these animals and their upkeep. I apologize for the lack of posts lately and slow response. What isn't seen is just how hard life has been life-ing lately. In a week we had a loss, took in a super sick kitty, had car troubles (so I had to miss work), had one of the rescue dogs break out and get hit by a car- he's okay but his knee took some damage so that's a big expense added to our bill, the fridge stopped working... I could keep going, but I'm not gonna focus on the negatives.

Point being. Just be kind. We're trying and drowning here (much like all other rescues and shelters.)

If anyone wants to volunteer to help with social media posts, please reach out. Sadly, I can't afford to pay anyone for this right now.

If you want to help lighten the load. Shop our Amazon list. The things we're always buying is marked Most Needed. Or donate (links below.)

Here's to claiming better days ahead. Thanks for listening to my morning spill. Spay and Neuter your pets. Look into training. Don't get an animal if you're not ready to commit to it. And there's nobody that has more time than you do. I promise you that your dog would rather enjoy getting your attention a few hours a day more than sitting in a shelter.

-Alana.

This is Salem. We got a call about a kitten with a "hurt leg and a big ole worm in her neck in the parking lot of an old gas station." I don't think we really knew what to expect. But, here she is! She's at the vet now, and we know more about her leg when they do X-rays. (It's for sure going to need a surgery, not sure if it'll need amputated yet.)

For now, we've got the botfly out of her neck, and got her eating and drinking!! (which she hadn't done throughout the night.)

We expect this to be a nice chunk on our funds, so any donation amount will help! I'll update more with X-rays and further conditions as we find out!!

❗️ Update: Leg will have to be removed. It's rotten internally, we have to get her a little more healthy before they will do the surgery! We expect this to run us between $600-$1000, please donate if you can, and share for us!!

Unfortunately, our oldest Hard Knocker, Dobby [Formerly known as Buddy] crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈🐾

His story was a heart breaking one. I know a lot of y'all have been following since he came to HKRT back in December of 2022. But, I'm not going to speak much on the horrific situation he came from, I'm going to tell you about him as we knew him. Over our time with Dobby, he managed to add at least 27 grey hairs to my head.

In the beginning of him being with us. He went from not eating and having failure to thrive- the Universe spared him the day we had that appointment set- in desperation we attempted to give him some soup. He suddenly realized soup was GOOD. He lived on nothing but soup for months. 😂

One night he gained some kind of super power and dashed out the door and skedaddled. We looked for him all night, thinking surely he couldn't have gone far, because he's old and senile, boy were we wrong. About 8am we got a call from a lady a few roads up saying he was in her bushes.

Dobby had sundowners, so he was very fond of the night life. The majority of the day he enjoyed lounging in his bed. Sometimes he'd get up and make a few laps, but he always came back to his bed. Until around 5 pm, that's when his day really got going. His laps became more frequent, and then he began talking to his ancestors or something, he'd bark at the wall, his shadow, the water bowl, he just barked to hear his voice. All night long we'd hear the pitter patter of his little feet and then the *rawff* of his bark. [Iykyk] It's like the world went to sleep and it was Dobby against the world at night. He would venture into new rooms, like the cat room -he learned very quickly that he didn't like- and the couch. You knew he was on the couch bc you'd hear him try and flop about 3 times before making it up there. Even with a system to climb/walk up- he was damned determined to do things his way.

Dobby was partially blind, so when he was in your business he was extremely up in your business. He loved to gum your fingers anytime you let your hand hang down. That's probably my fault though, because if I'm eating something- he was my taste tester. I'm gonna miss that guy with his little derpy smile.

Dobby was around 19, and we knew it was coming. We just weren't expecting it to be so soon.

If you're skeptical about a senior dog, please reconsider. You may not get to have them for as long, but I promise the love is just as sweet. Gonna miss this old man. How beautiful the rainbow bridge must be. 🐾🌈✨
