Bourbon has been making it happen!! 1 Seasoned pass last weekend and 1 senior pass this weekend! Need 2 more seasoned passes and 3 more senior passes to knock out those titles!

Oakley got her feet wet dove hunting, Bourbon got a little dove action with her trainer in Louisiana, time for Weller and Riot to get their feet wet this season!
It’s tough rotating multiple dogs through hunts during the season, but we manage!

boarding dog Rosco goes home today! 🎉 His mom and dad have missed him so much but he has had loads of fun playing with the other Bent Oaks dogs and being part of our household! when you board your dog with BOR, they are a part of our family and they get to have tons of fun with the resident pups! 🤝🏼

HRCH WSD Must Be The Whiskey SH
Weller is the perfect all around companion. He is a team player in hunt tests and shed hunting. He is extremely biddable and a quick learner. He has the most incredible natural off switch I’ve seen in a dog. He is perfectly content to lounge on the couch for several days in a row or go hunt for a week straight. He is gentle around my newborn and is respectful of people. He can be handled by just about anyone and will respect handlers outside of myself. He doesn’t require heavy corrections and doesn’t need to be micromanaged.

He has his HRC Finished title, UKC ESDS Working Shed Dog Title, AKC Senior Hunter title, AKC Junior Hunter title, and 70 points towards his UKC ESDS Champion Shed Dog title. We will be entering him in master tests over the course of the next year to obtain his MH and will update as he progresses.

*1 Master Pass earned April 2024

Most of his health testing is complete, his OFA eyes are the last to be finished and will be completed prior to breeding. He has OFA Excellent hips and Normal elbows. He has had a full embark panel done and is clear for EIC, CNM, DM, Dilute, and many other notable genetic diseases. Full panel will be shared upon request. Brucellosis testing will be conducted prior to breeding and any female will be expected to brucellosis test as well.

HR WSD Must Be The Whiskey SH
Weller man has been doing big things this year! Our big goal for the year was to attain his SH and dip our toes into HRC and pursue his Finished title. He’s earned himself 4 finished passes and is just 2 shy of earning his HRCH title. He’s been killing it in the duck blind and has turned into the most solid boy. Proud is an understatement. To put icing on the cake, my boy came back with Excellent hips and Normal elbows! He is completely clear of all genetic diseases and with the best scores I could have asked for on his hips and elbows. This upcoming spring we’ll finish that HRCH, dip our toes into Master, and we plan to run the spring Grand. big things for this big boy!

Bourbon has been a busy girl! She is now co-owned with my brother, living and training with him and absolutely loving her life. She has picked up 68 birds since the start of early teal season already. She is progressing very well through drills and advanced training and we expect to run her in seasoned, senior, and potentially finished this upcoming spring. And most importantly, this girl got her health testing back and has EXCELLENT hips and Normal elbows!! We are so excited for this girl’s future and can’t wait to continue hunting over her and pursuing bigger and better titles with her. She has done so wonderfully with my brother and it’s so exciting to see them work and learn together. 🎉

Frida is an excellent example of “Train the dog in front of you”! We started with a slip lead with her and she got to the point of ignoring it, so we moved to a pinch collar. We tried the pinch collar for a couple days and she showed me that it was a little too much for her so we’re moving her to a nice medium: the star mark collar or a plastic pinch collar! Always read your dog and if a certain tool isn’t right for them, change it up! Dog training isn’t one size fits all and some dogs will respond better to different tools!
