HR WSD Must Be The Whiskey SH
Weller man has been doing big things this year! Our big goal for the year was to attain his SH and dip our toes into HRC and pursue his Finished title. He’s earned himself 4 finished passes and is just 2 shy of earning his HRCH title. He’s been killing it in the duck blind and has turned into the most solid boy. Proud is an understatement. To put icing on the cake, my boy came back with Excellent hips and Normal elbows! He is completely clear of all genetic diseases and with the best scores I could have asked for on his hips and elbows. This upcoming spring we’ll finish that HRCH, dip our toes into Master, and we plan to run the spring Grand. big things for this big boy!

Bourbon has been a busy girl! She is now co-owned with my brother, living and training with him and absolutely loving her life. She has picked up 68 birds since the start of early teal season already. She is progressing very well through drills and advanced training and we expect to run her in seasoned, senior, and potentially finished this upcoming spring. And most importantly, this girl got her health testing back and has EXCELLENT hips and Normal elbows!! We are so excited for this girl’s future and can’t wait to continue hunting over her and pursuing bigger and better titles with her. She has done so wonderfully with my brother and it’s so exciting to see them work and learn together. 🎉

Frida is an excellent example of “Train the dog in front of you”! We started with a slip lead with her and she got to the point of ignoring it, so we moved to a pinch collar. We tried the pinch collar for a couple days and she showed me that it was a little too much for her so we’re moving her to a nice medium: the star mark collar or a plastic pinch collar! Always read your dog and if a certain tool isn’t right for them, change it up! Dog training isn’t one size fits all and some dogs will respond better to different tools!

running hunt tests and hunting is a team sport, you have to work with your dog and they have to work with you. weller is the best teammate and always gives it his all 🤝🏼

Oaks kicked off the shed season for us today! We hunted hard today and finally were able to find one this afternoon. She may be old but she still works her tail off!

Bourbon’s first title! All three of my labs now have their junior titles. Bourbon by far has been more difficult - she is head strong and has her idea of what she wants to do. She’s learned a lot and come a long way and I couldn’t be more proud of her. I look forward to seeing her as she moves through training and seeing how she grows as a gundog.
She also got to run with my brother and one of her favorite people on Saturday! he thoroughly enjoyed it and it’s safe to say he is going to become addicted to the hunt test game 😂

this boy works his tail off for me. he’s so calm and collected and knows what he’s supposed to do, even when i’m not confident in my handling abilities. for such a young dog with an inexperienced handler, he’s taken everything in stride and given me confidence in myself. i owe a lot to this boy. can’t wait to finish out his title!

holding blind manners

i expect all of my dogs to understand a holding blind and how to behave in one. it’s something i was taught previously and it stuck with me. all of my dogs know to go into the holding blind on the “kennel” command and lay down without any fuss. this really takes a lot of stress out of a hunt test, it’s familiar for the dog and they know how to relax before their turn at the line.

my boy got his first seasoned pass today!!! he’s the first dog i have run at this level or owned that made it to this level and i cannot express how proud of him i am. i could not have done it without the best support system in the world!! big thank you to everyone who’s been there by my side and encouraged me. and an especially big thank you to Nathan. Nathan took him while I was away from home for work and I told him my goal was to run Weller in senior/seasoned this spring. he took Welly and put his heart and soul into him. he was so thorough and taught him everything he needed to know to get him ready. i truly could not have gotten him here if it weren’t for Nathan. now on our way to his senior title!!!

it’s so hard to think about retiring my best friend. she definitely doesn’t want to retire, but she doesn’t want to be competitive or train or work on tightening things up anymore. so, semi-retired it is. she’s gonna get to pick up ducks and do the things she loves, but she’s always gonna have a back up dog now so when she gets too tired she can take a break and one of the youngsters can handle the tough, technical stuff. i’m looking forward to a few more years in the blind with my best girl.

I have one spot for a dog to take on for an obedience board and train. Located in Sealy, TX. Willing to meet within reason to pick up your dog if needed!

Dog will live with me and be treated as one of my own for around 30 days to complete the program. I allot 30 days for the training, some dogs may finish quicker and some may take a little longer!

Dog will learn the following:
- Sit
- Down
- Place
- Here
- Heel
- How to behave and remain calm in the house
- How to behave and interact in public (pet friendly) places
- Be conditioned to a prong collar
- Be conditioned to an e-collar
- Translate their training both on and off leash
- All general manners (ex: not jumping, not rushing out the door, not begging, etc)

This is open to any and all breeds! At this time, I am not taking on any serious behavior modification (ex: aggression, reactivity). This spot is slotted for dogs that are unruly and would benefit from having formal obedience.

Price will be discussed privately to prevent this post from getting flagged or deleted! Price includes boarding and training for the 30 days, one bag of food provided (I can purchase and provide a bag for their stay, they can eat what my dogs normally eat, this is open to discussion!), the purchase of an ecollar, prong collar, and biothane leash to take home at the end of your program, and a long session when the dog is done to show you how to implement the training in your daily lives! Price can be paid in full at the beginning or half at the beginning and half at pick up.

Off switches - something that’s SO important in a working dog that’s also a companion. Weller and Oakley have such natural off switches - they come inside and lay down, happy to chew on a bone or just nap for a little while. Bourbon on the other hand has needed lots of training and direction on how to be calm. Reinforcing her place command and making sure she gets adequate physical and mental stimulation throughout the day is the key! Even the dogs with big motors need to know how to slow down and relax sometimes.
