Hello friends! It's been a while, but don't you worry!

Around this time last year, we had already sold out of our first batch of Woofles. We decided to take a moment to step back and re-evaluate how we're going to go about this going forward and to redesign our packaging. As nice as the old one was, it was a chore to put together. After some back and forth with a good friend of Porter's Bakery (cannot thank Ashleigh Darby Art enough for the label redesign work); we eventually got a mockup of a whole new container design.

But, we felt that it was almost TOO good to have Woofles be put into such a beautifully designed container for it to be disposed or recycled of so quickly. So we iterated a bit further, and continuing on our path of sustainability and keeping the original concept in mind of a fully compostable container; we're beyond ecstatic to announce our brand new packaging!

Unlike other companies right now shrinking their packaging size, we kept the same number of 30 woofles per compostable package (YES, even the labels are 100% commercial and home compostable). We even switched over to a color laser printer to accommodate the white labels. And going forward, we're no longer using plastic clear packing tape for our shipping boxes; only kraft paper packing tape. We did an IMMENSE amount of research into sustainability, container shapes, designs, material; sourcing out different vendors, how truly unregulated the terms "compostable" and "biodegradable" really are, to even how cardboard is recycled and what we can do to ensure everything we use is as plastic free as possible and as least environmentally impactful as possible. But enough of that!

The other big news to catch you all up on; yes, we will be restocking our Etsy storefront very soon but only for a short while because....(drum roll) we'll be selling Woofles exclusively on our new website (TBD) at portersbakery.co! We found from the past year that we actually did a pretty dang good job of driving a lot of traffic externally to our Etsy site than just on Etsy alone--even with paid Etsy advertising. We're super excited for this and we hope you are too!

But not as excited as we are for this big bit of news! When we first set out our ambitions for Porters Bakery Woofles years ago, we wanted to have a more sustainable and less impactful subscription model. Where, instead of us sending you container after container of Woofles where the container gets discarded each time; we wanted to have a reusable one that you can keep on your kitchen counter or at your office desk and just get sent a sealed refillable pouch sent to your doorstep through USPS (as we've researched that they have the smallest carbon footprint out of all couriers).

So with that said, we're finally making that happen! We'll have options for buying said reusable kraft paper container (which shockingly, they're crazy durable and can take a heavy beating better than metal cans) and refill options delivered automatically based on how often you want them sent. More news and updates on that to come later in the year, but definitely can say that the container's look and feel will have you drooling!

Last and certainly not least, from the bottom of our hearts here at Porter's Bakery, we cannot express enough gratitude to everyone that's been a fan and supporter of what we're doing! It's been truly heartwarming getting sent photos of our everyone's furry friends woofin' for Woofles and getting messaged over the past year asking when we'll be restocked, patiently waiting on us. Even more so when we'd casually chat about this to almost complete strangers and see the look of excitement on their faces at how "cool" or "so adorable" this entire thing is.

As difficult as it's been going through the minutia of every aspect of this whole operation with how crazy, hectic and busy life has been, nothing we can really say has kept us motivated more than your love and support.

Hi friends!! We know we’ve been quiet lately, so thanks for sticking with us 💜 Things have been crazy. We sold out of woofles (!!!) which is AMAZING, and our CEP had a much needed vacation with his favorite friends Maddy and Coco. We love the environment as much as we love dogs, which is why our packaging is 100% compostable! We’ve even found compostable adhesive for the labels (it took some work, but it was worth it).

Keep in mind that NOTHING can be recycled with food residue or stains, so we recommend only composting our packaging to help avoid sending unusable material to recycling plants. The next best option is actually the landfill, because it’s biodegradable in trash- it just takes a little longer.

Here at Porter's Bakery, we fully welcome seeing the industry shift its focus to the ever growing plastic pollution problem--specifically addressing the issue of distinguishing what's compostable plastic or not. If you may not know, our Woofles container was designed using 100% compostable materials such as corn rosin lined paper cups to sugarcane paper labels with a compostable adhesive. Even our shipping boxes are readily recyclable with easy to recycle brown paper filler in them to secure each order of Woofles.

Our approach when we started this endeavor, we looked at ensuring that your pup's momentary delight scarfing down a Woofle won't leave a trace behind to be found 10 or more years later as an empty plastic container washed up on a shore or found on a hiking trail--but rather long gone safely biodegraded back to the earth.

Because that's the Porter's Bakery way, pure, simple, wholesome and loving ingredients go into not just every Woofle, but every step along the way.

The Biodegradable Products Institute will offer manufacturers input on labeling and identification strategies — addressing a long-running problem for organics diversion and an uptick in legislative attention.

One of the cool parts about doing this is seeing everyone show off their dogs with Woofles.
