It’s almost my favorite time of year-truffle season!! You have the potential to find truffles this season even if you’re starting from no experience! Foundation classes are for anyone with zero experience to folks nearly ready to hit the forest. 15% discount (refunded or credited toward another class) to the first 3 people who sign up. When you register put your preferred time and your experience. We will try to accommodate time but putting folks at similar levels is our priority.

Fall classes are here!! Tuesdays are all about Nosework! Daytime and early evening available. Wednesdays are for baby bird dogs up to 12 months. Learn the foundation behaviors that all bird dogs need including standing or sitting still while exciting things are happening, focusing on your human when needed and confidently moving away to a target! If pups are well matched there may be some off leash time.
We’ve also got Tenacious Teen and Frustrated Fido! I promise you and your pup won’t be bored!

Summer Kid's Camp is for kids 9-14 years old and their dogs, 6 months and up. No parents allowed!

This class meets for one hour for 5 consecutive days. We will cover how our dogs learn, using a marker, teaching basic skills such as sit, down as well as getting your dog's attention and a bunch of fun (lure and targeting) tricks! Dogs will also get some play time so we can talk about canine body language and play. All students will get a treat pouch and clicker of their own to take home.

Child must be able to hold onto the dog’s leash and dog must be both dog and people friendly and non-reactive. Dog must be on a harness or head collar (such as a Gentle Leader) and a fixed (non-retractible) leash 6-12 ft.

Ring in the New Year at Kokoro!! January classes are just around the corner and there’s plenty to choose from. New Sporting Breed puppy? -Baby Bird Dog is for puppies 8-20 weeks old. It’s a regular puppy class with some socialization but lots of emphasis on learning to chill in the face of very exciting things (birds) and beginning baby retrieves and using movement as a reinforcer.
Gun Dog for older pups and adults. Even if you don’t ever plan to hunt or test your Pointy, Spanielly Retrieving types this class is a lot of fun and we’ll be working on stays, recalls, heel work, retrieves and more! We’re having Senior (dogs) Snifforama at Kokoro on 9/16. This is the inaugural year so keeping it small but big fun will be had! No prior Sniffing training required. Fundraiser for Old Dog Haven in honor of some wonderful Nosework dogs we lost this year.

Gator would like to thank his fan club for enquiring about “NW3 19 the hunt for Elite”. His first 3 searches were pitch perfect. 2 exteriors where he earned Pronounced and then a container search we did ONE pass. Then the first vehicle search of two. NO, YES, NO…adios. No title. Not my finest moment at that second no. Instead of subjecting Gator to 2 more searches with me at the end of the leash, we left. sad, angry, frustrated, defeated. I don’t like that person who cares so much about a stupid ribbon that she sees red at the sound of NO. So I’ll be working on me before we return to NW3too.
I pulled him from first place off a wait list for a trial in April. I’ll look for some Vehicle element trials, enter some uscss and maybe some ukc. But we will not do another NW3 until I figure this out.
Saturday he did what he loves best some training with Birds!! DO NOT OPEN IF YOU DONT LIKE SEEING ACTUAL HUNTING DOGS PERFORMING THEIR JOB.
Today he found many a white truffle for students and a few for me:).
He is a really good boy!

The first class of baby bird dogs at Kokoro wowed us with their mad skills! Longest time in a stay, fastest retrieve, fastest recall, loose heel, a and super fun tracking contest. Winter was the overall winner taking home a chukkit retrieving stick but second place Sunny scored a Snoopy and Truman the Tall who was only 2 points away scored a “Whine Box” 🙂.
We really missed little Goose. We know you’re waiting to come in and rule BBD 2! There are still a few spots in the next Baby Bird Dog. If your sporting breed puppy is between 8-20 weeks at start of class we guarantee it’s fun! Seems they were such good puppies they were turned in to mythical creatures like cats at their graduation ceremony.

Thank you to my amazing students who once again donated generously and I think we will have close to 1k for Old Dog Haven and American Brittany Rescue with my match!!! This has been a really tough year-AGAIN. And it seems to just keep throwing s**t but it is truly a joy to do what I do and to call many of my students my friends. I’ve worked a lot of jobs in my life and that’s not always been the case.

INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT CANINE BEHAVIOR?
We are a great “laboratory” for observing and learning about dog to dog interactions and behavior.

Dog’s Day Out, dog day care and training facility in Ballard is looking for part-time help. Some basic knowledge on canine behavior preferred but a willingness and eagerness to learn is even more important. Great job for a trainer, animal behavior student or veterinary assistant interested in canine behavior.

A responsible, self-starter able to work independently who is good with both animals and people is what we are looking for. You must also be OK with cleaning; we are working with animals so, we do a lot of that around here as well.

We are currently looking for both AM and PM shifts -ability to work with some flexibility is helpful. Shifts generally 7-12:30 or 12:30-6:30. You can take any class we offer free that has room with your own dog.
17.50 an hour 10-20 hours per week. We are open M-F.
