What is a Spay or Neuter? Why Every Pet Owner Should Know This 🐾

After your pet is spayed or neutered, a small green tattoo is placed near the incision site — this is a quick way to show the procedure was done. Don’t worry, it fades quickly and heals well.

🔹 Pain Management:
All pets receive an injection for pain and inflammation after surgery, lasting up to 24–72 hours.
• For cats: A long-lasting injection is usually enough.
• For dogs and adult animals: You may also get 2–3 days of pain meds to give at home (starting the day after surgery).

⚠️ Important: Never give human medications like Tylenol or ibuprofen to pets unless specifically instructed by a vet — it can be very dangerous.

💉 Vaccines:
If your pet recently started vaccinations, make sure to get a booster in 3–4 weeks. (This doesn’t apply to rabies, which lasts one year.)

💡 What is a Spay?
A spay is a complete ovariohysterectomy — the removal of both ovaries and uterus through a small incision in the belly. It’s safe and helps prevent future health issues.
