Licton Springs P-Patch A City of Seattle p-patch public garden on the campus of North Seattle Community College.

Community volunteers, campus staff and students all come together to develop
the newest amenity for the Licton Springs neighborhood in North Seattle. This is
the first official p-patch garden created on WA state land; we hope to pave
the way for more partnerships between the City of Seattle Dept. of Neighborhoods
and the State of Washington to support urban agriculture.

How to tell Male VS Female blossoms, and why it matters!

Ever gone to the garden to see bare stems with blossoms missing? Recently went to the garden to find a beautiful blossom had fallen off, mysteriously. After further investigation I learned there’s male and female blossoms. Early on you’ll
have several male blossoms just drop off as the plant starts to focus its energy on production. You can even assist production by removing the male counter parts which gives your plant more capacity; the blossoms are great to cook with. To tell them apart look for the bulb in the bottom where the stem starts.

Licton Springs P-Patch contributes to the community in so many ways — In addition to a plot maintained by gardeners and dedicated to the food bank, gardeners contribute from their own plots. Just this week 60 lbs of produce, including lettuce, chard, kale, different varieties of squash, cucumbers, and onions were donated to the University District food bank!
