If you’ve been in Puppy Playtimes with us, you know managing the play groups and teaching both puppies and humans about appropriate play is our passion!

Our trainers love when we eavesdrop on the playgroup next door and hear clients narrating and managing with skill and confidence.

There’s a lot to say about dogs and sniffing! (More than one instagram post that’s for sure🤓)

One thing we often see in playtime is puppies approaching each other to sniff the nose and rear. It’s an important part of how our pups gain information about each other, and can lead to more interactions like parallel play and even wrestling once their confidence grows!

Beers, Bites, Pups, and an incredible mission!
assistance.dogs helps expand access to assistance dogs by helping owners/handlers train their own dogs using positive, ethical methods.

When our clients let us know they’re working toward assistance training, we happily refer them to Atlas for the intensive and specific skills the dogs and handlers will need to achieve their goals!

Our trainer Kara will be there supporting Atlas for their second annual fundraiser and would love to say hi when you swing by!

From our Senior Trainer Kara:
“One thing I love about Growly Dog Clinic is how mellow and less reactive my dog CJ is afterwards! 🐾”

We often hear clients say Clinic, a progression class in our Growly Program, sets their dogs up for a much calmer week where they’re able to handle and process triggers better in their day-to-day environment.

We do know that if CJ (pit bull/border collie mix) can be calm, that says something!

We love teaching stationing (two or four paws up!) as a way to keep our dogs active but stationary. Especially our wiggly teenagers! Here Rosie and Brownie practice around our neighborhood distractions.

(We wonder what Rosie and her handler are discussing😉)

We’ve revamped our nosework class offerings!

Our instructor Alyssa Schmidt, pictured here competing with Benny, is working toward her CNWI with K9 Nose Work®️ 👏, so we have a few new classes!

Our client favorite Nosework Games isn’t going anywhere and is perfect for home enrichment with dogs who are comfortable learning in a small group class setting.

For a competition track, dogs can participate in K9 Nose Work - Level 1, where they will come into the room one at a time and work individually with their handler and Alyssa to build independent searching skills. This class is great for dogs who need more space from other dogs (hey Growly grads 👋)

Once completing Nosework Games ✨OR✨ Level 1, you’re ready for K9 Nose Work - Level 2! This will include more challenging searches including vehicles and exteriors.

Visit our website for more info on each of these classes, and let us know if you have any questions in the comments!

We love playing tug with our pups! It’s a great way to burn off steam and have fun together, but it’s important to have ground rules to keep everyone safe and happy.

Check out our blog post for some tug foundations: https://ahimsadogtraining.com/dog-tug-rules/ #:~:text=Tug%20should%20be%20played%20with,do%20most%20of%20the%20tugging.

Happy Easter! This Ahimsa grad got all dolled up for the holiday. Today we are working on grooming in our puppy classes because getting used to body handling is such an important life skill - although wearing bunny ears is optional. 😊

Making new friends can be hard! When puppies are working up the courage to say hi, it can help to use fences as a barrier to make them feel safe to explore, sniff, and maybe flirt! Once they’re looking comfortable, a leash on the more rambunctious puppy can help slow them down and let the shyer puppy engage at their own pace. Then it’s party time!

Every pup has unique needs in play, our goal is to narrate what we see so the handlers can learn, and to facilitate play that works for each pup, from teeny tiny to big rowdy.
