Morning Pupdate 🐾🌞

Yesterday gave us a mini trial run for our winter weather policy. 🌨 If Sedalia School District cancels, Bark House Daycare cancels too. 🏫🚫 While we easily could have run a PM session yesterday, the AM temps were in the low 20s, so the cancellation was the right call. 🧊

So let’s talk about the “why.”
We know it can be confusing when boarders are still with us and staff is still here, (so why cant MY dog come!?) but daycare is different.

At Bark House, we follow IBPSA spacing standards, which recommend 1,000 sq ft per group of 10 dogs. Remember, there are no concrete regulations at all for dog daycare like there are for boarders, so we willingly choose to seek organizations with regulations we can follow. 👈 There needs to be some sort of blueprint here or you run into those horror stories about daycares.

With our typical daycare numbers (30–45 dogs), we would need almost 5,000 sq ft of indoor space just for daycare groups, not counting kennels, grooming, storage, and regular boarding operations. That's a lot of room just for 45 dogs. Imagine our difficulties planning to build a 100 dog facility 😅. That's at least 10,000 sqft of indoor free roam area, again, excluding bathrooms, storage, kennels, lobby, laundry, etc.

Outside? We’re golden. 🌟

We have large yards, designated play zones, enrichment spaces, and our private walking trail. That’s why we can confidently manage 3 separate playgroups of 10–15 dogs during normal weather.

Inside? 🤔 Completely different story. 😅
We simply cannot have 45 dogs running loose inside a 40x50 building. Safe rotations are the only option. But even with rotations, at least one group would have to stay outside for extended periods while others come in. In 20° weather, that’s unsafe for the dogs and our staff.

So when the schools call it for cold weather, we will too. 😃

From last Monday until today, thank you to all the dogs who kept us busy this week. Even with canceling daycare for 4 days, we still managed to check in 100 dogs. No, not at the same time ✋️🤣. A revolving door between boarding and daycare!

Attention Bark House Clients ✋️

Bark House is a nature based daycare. 🌳
We spend the majority of our days outside.

❄️🧥 To keep our staff and dogs safe and comfortable this season, we will be enforcing a winter weather policy.

Winter-mix weather is when Bark House posts the most daycare closings. Some dogs can naturally handle the weather but WE cannot. To add, our yard is filled with gravel and can take a toll on paw pads when it freezes over.

PAY ATTENTION TO SCHOOL CLOSINGS
If Sedalia School District is closed, Bark House daycare will also close. 👈🏡🐕🚫

We will not be offering pet taxi pick up or drop off this season. 🛻🙅‍♀️🙅‍♂️

I groomed the funniest cat today ✋️. She hung out in the bath like a dog 🐕. Flopped her mittens right over the edge of the bath and just stayed there while I rinsed. Then she kind of got the cat zoomies and started scratching on the tree post and hopping around (Soaking wet 💦, mind you). She was rolling over so I could blow dry her belly and started playfully bunny kicking the blow dryer, all to roll over again and repeat the process. She even stretched her paw out so I could blow dry it and she liked how her paw bounced in the wind 🌬 so she started playing with the air from the dryer. What a fun cat to groom 🤣

Afternoon Pupdate 🐾

We had a fully booked Thanksgiving with Greta, Kona, Phoebe, Spencer, Teegan, Brinlee, Henry, Marco, Harley, Gracie, Sunny, Sissy, Hazel, Hank, Bentley, Simba, Beau, Miska, Midas, Mando, Ellie, Franky, Frisco, Gwen, Tucker, Milo, Milo, Duke, Quin, Re*****on, R***r, Romeo, Zola, Chief, Marco. 🐕🏡🦃

The dogs enjoyed their Thanksgiving meal 🥕 🌱 this afternoon and feasted on carrots, green beans, cold cut turkey slices, and whipped cream. They were so excited they started sneaking into the bowls right off the cart before we could pass them out.

Geronimo's mom stopped by with an entire feast for US. Can you believe that!? It took so much stress off making our own dinner this year.

Thank you for booking with Bark House! The dogs are having a great time and we hope you enjoy the remainder of your holiday. ❤️

Disclaimer: Thanksgiving is the only time we offer meals in a group setting. All dogs were cordial and made clean bowls within seconds. 🤣🍗
