Small town (under 1,000) Two part time employees. Shelter hours are 9:00 to Noon. Monday to Friday. Phone number is 620-216-0022. Which includes neuter/spay.

If wanting to meet and possibly adopt, contact the shelter to make arrangements for after hours or on the weekends. The shelter is located at 921 Hwy 99 about 1/2 miles south of Sedan. Big Blue metal building on the west side of the Hwy. Mailing address for the shelter and The Friends of the Chautauqua County Animal Shelter (FOCCAS) is PO Box 232 Sedan, Kansas 67361. Wanting to help with Transpor

t and the Longton Dogs? Donations maybe mailed to CCAS Transport 403 East Elm Sedan, Kansas 67361. $150.00 adoption fee. Which helps to pay but doesn't totally cover the Vet bill. Rabies, parvo, distemper. Heart worm test Given Bravecto for fleas and ticks. Sentinel for worms. There is a $25.00 surrender fee. This shelter has been a No Kill for over 10 years. We only take animals from Chautauqua County.

Available September 6th. Henry, 4 months and 15 lbs is getting neutered soon. Full of s***k, barks a lot and housebroke, will be available for adoption next Wednesday. Breed - mini Aussie. $200.00 adoption fee. Many people are interested in him.

Our adoption fee for dogs over one years of age is $150.00 which helps pay the Vet bill. The dogs are neutered/spayed, vaccinated, (rabies, parvo, distemper) heart worm tested and begin preventative. If a dog is HW +, they go through the four month treatment. Puppies - if we have pups under three months, they will stay us until they can get neutered/spayed at three months. They will get neutered/spayed at three months and older, given three parvo shots, (that takes about 9 weeks.) other vaccines and begin preventative. Their adoption fee is $200.00.

These two young dogs were found as strays awhile back. Tan/white dog is a male. Black is a female. They have been fixed and vaccinated. Located in or near Tyro, Kansas. Anyone interested? Contact this page and I will send a contact number.

RESCUE FRIENDS: Our shelter is on in take hold due to a recently brought in puppy breaking with parvo. She is responding well so hopfully she will not get sicker. This guy is homeless in a small town in Chautauqua County and we can not take him in. I was told he is a sweet dog, does not bark and is o.k. with cats. He is hanging out at a house and getting fed but the human can not keep him. If anyone can take him into their rescue or shelter, let me know soon! I will transport him if the facility is not too far. PLEASE SHARE!!!

Charles began volunteering at the shelter late Spring 2023. December 2023 he was injured and could not help at the shelter. He came back as a volunteer in July and was hired as our third staff member. Welcome Back Charles.

Nice cool morning to be in the dog yard. Wish I could let all the dogs out together but can not. Play groups are 1. Gus, Doss, Luna. 2. Charley and Doss. 3. Doss, Luna, Cassie, Ace.4. Ricky and Ace. 5. Ricky and Lucy. 6. Luna, Ace, and Sadie. 6. Jasmine plays alone. I would love to try her with Ace or Doss but she has gone after Ricky and Alberto in the past. So she continues to be alone and I really think she likes it that way. Forgot to take a photo of Jasmine.

UPDATE for the year 2024: One surrender.(Sadie) Five strays (Ben, Jerry, Gus, Cassie, and Bane who had to be euthanized do to severe health issues) Five dogs adopted. Alberto went to Pawhuska area. Jerry went Grenola. Ben is living in Independence, Mo. Spud in Coffeyville. Maggie in the Cedar Vale area.

Chance!! He has gained 16 lbs. Thanks WAAL for the update!! Someone knows Chance. Someone neglected this young Treeing Walker Coonhound that he was near death. Not now! He is thriving!!

CHANCE UPDATE: This made me so HAPPY!! He is drinking and eating small meals. Pooping and peeing outside and not in his kennel. He found his voice today. The Vet will retest his blood in the morning and see if there are any changes and do the infusion tomorrow. The other dog you hear is Norman from our shelter.

EXCELLENT UPDATE: Carlos got a much needed bath. He was not sure about it but stood still and now smells much better. Him and Wilson are getting along wonderfully. Carlos, the hyper shelter dog is now Carlos calm and mellow. He will crawl on the humans lap like a cat when he wants attention.

I got a request for videos of former shelter dog Twila and her momma sent me three. Twila got this toy after she broke her leg. Happened last year. She loves it and can keep herself entertained. Thanks for the video's Kaaren!!

The year was 2019 I do believe when this girls life totally changed. Former shelter dog Twila. Living the life in Florida. Twila's story - she was found in Elgin and was brought to the shelter. I had taken her to the Vet to get spayed, vaccinated and it was found she had been shot and was heart worm positive. About a month later, I received a message from a lady seriously interested in Twila but she lived in Florida. I told Kaaren that Twila would have to go through heart worm treatment before she can get adopted. Kaaren and I kept in touch. After Twila completed her treatment- takes four months, we were figuring out how to get Twila to Kaaren. Still to this day, neither of us know why or how Twila's post came across her page. We have no ties. common friends, nothing. Kaaren was in love and had to have Twila. Kaaren said it was meant to be. A few weeks later, I got a call from Kaaren. Her husband wasn't doing well and he really wanted to meet Twila before he passed. The next day, we were on our way to Kaaren's. Twila was able to spend a little time with her human dad, but he never came home. Twila's best friend is a cat named Liberty. Twila used to hang out at the rodeo's and one day got kicked by a bull. Not sure if she goes anymore. I am hoping to go back to Kaaren's this fall. Twila has been a blessing to Kaaren.
