Mel, Barbie, & Cleo Are Still Waiting for Their Forever Homes!

Our three longest residents—Mel (since 1/23/24), Barbie (since 2/22/24), and Cleo (since 3/7/24)—are still here, and we can’t believe it! These absolutely fabulous dogs have been waiting far too long for their second chance.

They all get along wonderfully with other dogs and have been in a playgroup together for quite some time. In the past few weeks, they’ve had short doggie adventures as a break from the shelter, but it’s never enough. They deserve loving homes where they can truly thrive.

Please share their posts and help them find the families they’ve been waiting for! Even a foster home would make a huge difference in their lives—or better yet, an adoptive home!

🎉🐾 Just One Week Until Kody's 1st Birthday! 🐾🎉

Our sweet boy Kody is turning ONE in just one week! 🥳 This playful, loving 11-month-old Hound mix has been with us for over six months, and while we wish he could celebrate this milestone with his forever family, we’re determined to make his birthday special.

Kody is a staff favorite who gets along wonderfully with kids and other dogs, big and small. He loves running around with his playmates and going on adventures, and he’s the perfect mix of energy and affection.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if Kody could celebrate his birthday next week in a home of his very own? 🏠 If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, now’s the time to meet Kody!

🚨 January Recap – What. A. Month. 🚨

January has been BUSY—so many animals have come through our shelter, and we’ve been working nonstop to give them the best chance at a new life. Right now, we have a number of dogs in our shelter and a handful of cats still looking for their forever homes. 🐾🏡

We are beyond grateful to the fosters who have stepped up! 🙌 Four amazing dogs— Phoebe, Piper, Kuno, and Moose—are in foster homes but still searching for their perfect families. And as you can see from the graphic, many are out on foster-to-adopt, just waiting for their final vaccines and sterilization. Without fosters and adopters, we literally could not do what we do.

If you don’t know Mel by now, you must not be following us! (Hint: Hit that follow button! 👀) Mel has been with us for over a year, and we just don’t get it—he is such an amazing boy! Let’s find this sweet guy his forever home.

Meet James & Claire – Two Pups in Need of a Hero!

James and Claire have been at the shelter for about two weeks, and the stress of shelter life is already weighing heavily on them. They’re struggling to adjust, and each day is becoming more difficult for them.

James, a stunning 1-2-year-old German Shepherd, is an energetic boy who loves to run and explore. Unfortunately, James has figured out how to jump our fences, which limits his yard time since our staff can’t always be outside with him. He’s in need of an adopter or foster who can provide him with a secure space to burn off his energy and enjoy life outside the shelter.

Claire, a sweet and beautiful 1-2-year-old Husky mix, is full of love and spirit. She adores sniffy walks, playtime in the yard, and would thrive in a home that can give her the attention and affection she deserves.

While they arrived at the shelter together as strays, James and Claire are not bonded and can be adopted or fostered separately. They both showed great house manners when they first arrived, keeping their kennels clean and only going potty outside.

James and Claire desperately need a fresh start. Whether through fostering or adoption, you could be the hero these pups are waiting for!

🐾 Meet Max: The Gentle Giant! 🐾

Max is a 3-year-old Shepherd mix with a heart full of love, just waiting for the right person to bring it out! He came to us in June and is still searching for his forever home. Max is a little shy at first, but once he trusts you, he’s a big, affectionate sweetheart who just wants to be loved.

Max gains confidence around other dogs, especially his buddy Lady, so they’d make a great duo if you’re looking for two! But they can also be adopted separately. Max is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped—ready to be your new best friend.

This sweet 6-month-old German Shepherd puppy has been thriving in her foster home, and now she’s ready to find her forever family! 💕

Phoebe is the shyest of her sisters, but don’t let that fool you—she’s a total cuddle bug! While her siblings romp around, she prefers snuggling up for some quality human time. She’s been blossoming in her foster home, showing off her playful side with small dogs and soaking up all the love she can get. 💕

Meet Moose!

Moose is an adorable 2-month-old mixed-breed puppy (possibly Lab, Shepherd, etc.), but one thing’s for sure—he’s 100% the cutest boy around! This playful, sweet, and cuddly pup has a big personality and even bigger charm. Moose gets along wonderfully with other dogs and cats, making him a great fit for a multi-pet home.

He’s currently working on potty training (it’s a process, but he’s trying!) and learning boundaries—because, right now, he has none! Moose loves following you everywhere, often walking between your legs, which makes every step an adventure. He already knows how to sit and is eager to learn more with his forever family.

At bedtime, Moose’s favorite comforts are his beloved stuffed toy and some calming music. He’s definitely (in the best way possible) and deserves all the love.

🚨 URGENT: WE NEED FOSTERS & ADOPTERS! 🚨

The past few days have been overwhelming. Not only are we taking in stray dogs from Selma, but we’ve also had SIX dogs dumped at our shelter in just four days.

💔 Three small puppies were cruelly tossed over our barbed wire fence into our yard.
💔 Three terrified adult dogs were found hiding in our yard.

We don’t understand why this keeps happening, but we do know that California is in a crisis. Shelters and rescues are completely over capacity, and adoption rates are at an all-time low. We have puppies who have been here for months—growing up in a shelter instead of a loving home.

We are exhausted trying to keep up. We want to save them all, but we can’t do it alone. We need:

🐾 Fosters – Even short-term fosters for a weekend give a dog relief from the stress of the shelter.
🐾 Adopters – Give one of these animals a forever home.
🐾 Rescue Pulls – If you’re with a rescue, we need your help.

💜 You can also help by sharing this post everywhere. We know we can count on our amazing community—after all, it takes a village.

Meet Macie – The Sweetest Little Pup!

Macie is an adorable young puppy who has been waiting patiently for her forever home for more than 60 days now. She was brought in as a stray in November and has quickly become a staff favorite with her sweet, playful personality.

This cutie loves running around in the yard with other puppies and enjoys hanging out in our small dog playgroup. She hasn’t met cats yet, but she’s very social and would likely do well with kids. Just keep in mind that Macie is still a young pup full of energy, so she’s working on her manners and can sometimes get a little jumpy or mouthy in her excitement.

Macie is ready to bring love, laughter, and plenty of tail wags into her new home. Adoptions are just $50 this month, so stop by Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM to meet her.

Let’s Talk About Shelter Stress

Shelter stress is a harsh reality for many dogs who find themselves in the unfamiliar, noisy, and isolating environment of a kennel. While shelters strive to provide love and care, the situation itself can be overwhelming for many animals. Let’s break down the causes:

1. Social Isolation
Dogs are incredibly social creatures. They crave connection and thrive on human interaction—something that is limited in a shelter setting.

2. Lack of Exercise
Shelter dogs often don’t have enough opportunities to burn off their energy, which can lead to frustration.

3. Fear and Anxiety
The shelter environment—filled with new smells, sounds, and unfamiliar faces—can feel threatening to a dog’s sense of safety. Some dogs and certain breeds are more sensitive to this than others, and it can lead to heightened stress and anxiety.

One of the dogs at our shelter who is really struggling is Parker, a two-year-old German Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix. Parker is a special boy who thrives on human connection. He loves people so deeply it’s hard to describe—but here in the shelter, he’s struggling.

Parker has started to show classic signs of kennel stress, such as spinning in his kennel. This repetitive behavior is a sign of anxiety and a desperate need for relief.

Parker is playful with other dogs, but he’s likely not the best fit for homes with small children or animals. What Parker really needs is someone who can give him the connection and stability he’s longing for. He just wants to be part of a family—to belong and feel loved.

We are desperate to get Parker into a home environment, even if it’s just a foster home to help him decompress and feel secure. Could you, or someone you know, be Parker’s hero?

By fostering or adopting Parker, you could change his life and give him the chance to truly thrive. He has so much love to give—he just needs the right person to see it.
