Charlie Then vs Now. Time flies by too fast. He is possibly the most loved member of our big family by our guests. He is always happy to see everyone and has never met a stranger. He mostly makes himself right at home on their lap or shoulder. We have availability Tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday. We will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

THANK YOU! We received a donation today from a family who wishes to remain anonymous that was so thoughtful and helpful especially at this time of year. They dropped off some large dog houses they were no longer using, a carrier, and a check to pay for the animals groceries for the next 2 weeks! Talk about the Christmas Spirit! Enjoy this photo of Skadi smiling

Does anyone know where to start? We are always looking for avenues to help our facility and wildlife education is a big passion of ours. Whenever kids come out here and are having fun, making memories, and learning about the creatures of the world it makes us so happy! So I was thinking what better way to get kids interested in animals than to try and write some children's books. These stories are inspired on the animals that are or have been in our care. The problem is that I have not even the slightest clue on where to start or how to start. I drew out a rough draft and will be posting examples below. Let us know what you think and maybe we can share this and get it in front of the right people! Thank you

PLEASE READ! This time of year is extremely slow for us at Nomad's. We are asking for your help, but we are NOT asking for donations even though they are welcome. Facebook actually pays us everytime you SHARE, LIKE, OR COMMENT on our posts. If you could take a moment when seeing our posts to do one or all of those things it goes a longggg way in getting us though the winter. This time of year we can't rely on guest's admissions with the holidays, but you all can still help us pay for the feed and vet bills (like Paco's leg) without it costing you a dime. Thank you so much for all your love and support

You might have heard of or seen deer rubs on trees before, but have you ever actually seen one do it? Here is our very own Big Hoss

UPDATE. Paco's leg is healing. He won't wear his cone of course. For the next 3 to 4 weeks he is on strict orders to not jump, run, or play with others. The next few weeks for Paco are definitely not going to be fun considering he is confined to a crate because of the restrictions on movement. He is a tough little guy and hasn't acted like he is in any pain at all. We hope to get him back with his best buddy Davy soon. For people wondering he is a Pale Fox. Thank you for all the get well wishes! And thank you Shawnee Animal Hospital for the above and beyond help from all their staff!

It has been awhile since we did an "Inside the Zoo" post but here it one. Tonight Paco broke his leg. Everything is looking good now though but it was scary. We are still unsure of how he managed to do this. We can take every precaution as possible but accidents can still happen. We were doing our nightly feedings when we noticed the injury. With over 200 animals it is bound to happen from time to time but it's always scary and sad. We debated talking about this at all because the public expects USDA facilities to be perfect all the time but it's just not possible. We would love to say that we could fix whatever caused this but we can't. We will never know if he climbed to the top and divebombed on the ground, if he was playing to rough with the other foxes, or if he just simply lost his footing. Keep Paco in your thoughts and payers. Recovery time is expected to be only 4 weeks. Foxes heal incredibly fast

This is the teaser for the Show Eli, our Bobcat, will be appearing in! Warning not for kids lol. The show is called Dusty Bluffs and the release date is still TBA. We are excited to see our amazing baby Eli on screen! He was originally a rescue and has been in our care since his eyes were barely open. We know his life isn't as adventurous as a wild bobcat but I definitely believe that he feels loved and safe with us. Eli, like all our animals, is deemed non-releasable by USDA.

BE ON THE LOOK OUT IN SEMINOLE, OK. A private owner has lost their African Serval. This cat is very easy to identify as it looks like a small cheetah. These cats can not survive the winter and needs to be found fast! If anyone spots it please contact the owner before approaching. They can run 45mphs and have serious stamina.

Arlo heard he might be on the naughty list 😨!
All jokes aside this time of year always sees a tragedy. This tragedy is what we call "Christmas Puppy Fever." We all know that many of our kids Christmas lists will be topped off by an adorable puppy, and while this makes for some cute Facebook and Instagram photos, it mostly ends in heartbreak only months later. As adults if you are planning on getting a Christmas puppy, please do us all a favor and enter this decision assuming that YOU will be the one taking care of it every day. Honestly your kids are at school most of the day, they have homework, they hang out with friends, they have sports, etc. That dog will be more yours than theirs in most cases. The cute puppies and shelter dogs need homes for Christmas, just make sure that come March 1st that it's still the same home. Arlo might be making the naughty list but year after year Santa will still be bringing that coal to this address, not someone else's.

When DeeOhGee first came here 3 years ago he was an absolute train wreck. He hated anyone and everyone. While he still gets nervous from time to time he will actually take treats from guests using a spoon. He was one of our first surrendered native species and definitely the one that took the longest to calm down. Come see him and the others Tomorrow (Saturday), message to book a hands-on and educational tour. We have times available at noon and 2pm
