I saw a post today from a breeder we really admire about purchasing a goat from another breeder that unfortunately tested CAE positive after it arrived. The comments led to some discussion about the pasteurizing of milk. We test our herd yearly for CAE, CL and Johnes… but we still pasturize/ heat treat all milk from birth. All these babies drinking from the lambar are drinking pasteurized milk. I spend extra time in the barn morning and night because I have to wait for the heating and then holding at temp for at least 30 minutes to be safely pasturized.

Keep this in mind when making your purchases this spring; always ask were the kids raised on heat treated milk!

We got in late from the barn last night so I didn’t get around to posting these pictures! But they deserve to be shared I’m so proud of our girls. These are closer to 16 hour fills. We are milking at 4 am and normally a smidge late on Tuesday and Thursday, but we were extra late last night. The only joy of last nights late night barn chores is being greeted with these 15-16 hour fills…… I’m just blown away!

P.S. I know their hooves need trimming and their haircuts are subpar. But I can assure you it’s been longer since I had a pedicure and a hair cut than they have. 😂😂🫣

So….. We will never let our herd get as large as it once was. But the littermate sister to this boy is staying.

Water Lilly is exactly what I envision when I hear people talk about wanting to breed Nigerians who are small standard goats. While Lilly almost got herself a new home last year for her very poor milk stand manners, she has completely redeemed herself this year. She has large easy-to-express teats, a striking general appearance, and the will to milk (a new will, lol). Lilly is a large doe (not OH) so while she has an incredible will to milk her mammary doesn’t look as large compared to her body. However, if I was going to show, this doe would be my 4-year-old milker without a doubt. The sire to this buck kid is Winning Streak EB Star-dom. Dom encompasses some of the most influential lines of Winning Streak. Starla has proven to be a superstar doe with an EEEE 92! Juice was getting on up there in age at 2 years old without freshening so she was included in this group of does. I could not be more thrilled with a first freshening udder; these are just some milk time photos but this doe has the structure of mammary! Her medial should come in more as she progresses in this lactation, she is only 3 ½ weeks fresh. Her sire Little Tots Estate Stevia is finally getting the recognition he deserves with enough freshened daughters to finally see all the good traits he brings! On March 29th we will be traveling to Virginia, I am posting my route. I get a lot of questions regarding transport options and I know arranging reasonable and reliable. transport is a concern. We aren’t hauling a trailer so I can’t transport adults. But I’m happy to haul a few babies along in a crate. We still haven’t posted all of our available babies but here are a few of the ones currently posted.

As we freshen does we will still be trying to plan the best breedings possible; with what genetics are still here. Because we aren’t doing performance programs at the moment the following kids will be a steal of a deal.
A few caveats are: buck kids we will be DNA’d and that is included in the sale price, all kids will be disbudded and depending on age have their first CD/T shot, BUT THEY ARE ONLY LEAVING WITH REGISTRATION APPLICATIONS WE ARE NOT DEALING WITH ADGA ONLINE, all kids are on twice a day bottles. We do ask that they are picked up quickly.
