Fox-Bell Farm & Training Fox-Bell Farm offers boarding, training, lessons, horse shows, camps, birthday parties, and other events. Please call or text Shelby 206-399-7683

Fox-Bell Farm & Training is a new training service being offered in Sequim, Port Angeles, and across the Olympic Peninsula that has relocated from Bainbridge Island. "FBF" teaches and trains Hunters, Jumpers, and Equitation horses and riders for all levels and ages as well as offering colt starts and work with "problem horses". Fox-Bell Farm and Training offers:
-Private and group lessons
-Pony ri

-Competition schooling and coaching
-Horse training for green horses to advanced show jumpers
-Full training for horses
-Lesson horses are available or you can haul in your own horse(s)
-Temporary stalls available for multiple horse haul-in's
-Boarding
-And more! Shelby Vaughan, Fox-Bell's trainer, has worked with many Olympian's and internationally recognized riders. She has also ridden and won in horse show classes such as Mini Grand Prix's, Grand Prix's, National Hunter Derbies, Maclay, and Good Seat and Hands along with riding with gold medalist Olympian, Melanie Smith Taylor, after being selected as one of the few riders to participate in the Emerging Athletes Program. Shelby also is very involved with rescue horses and training rescued equines. All of Shelby's personal horses have been rescued and trained by her to be successful in many areas of show jumping. Shelby's rescue farm (Blakely Hill Farm) is currently located in Sequim and on Bainbridge Island but is fully relocating soon to the Olympic Peninsula for more acreage to rescue, rehabilitate, and train more horses. 💛Our sweet girl is coming home!💛
What we thought was a blocked ureter and kidney stone, turned into a knarly infection in her kidneys. Watching her in that much pain and not able to move her hind legs was terrifying!

Thank you to Marley’s medical teams at Blue Mountain and Summit Veterinary for treating her so promptly!!

Prayers for our sweet sancuary/barn dog Marley who has been in emergency care since last night. I spent the day in Tacoma and hopefully can pick her up with answers tomorrow 🙏 💛

The farm doesn’t feel right without her!

🎉Happy ADOPTION, Nova!! 🎉

Nova was rescued in November of 2020 from a livestock auction where we bid against a Kill Buyer.

She arrived to the auction house in a trailer filled with sheep 🐑

Nova couldn’t load quicker into our trailer, followed by two other horses that were saved by my mom and by our wonderful client Sally.

I drove the three horses to our friend Victoria’s house where they sat for a couple months to decompress and quarantine.

The three of them made quick friends!

Cali went to our Barr Road location where she lives in our sanctuary. She came to us with terrible hooves and had trouble getting around… she is not sound enough for hard work.

Royal, Sally’s Thoroughbred, is still at our Finn Hall training location, now owned by Trainer Chloe who enjoys trail riding with him. Now that Royal has recovered from Kissing Spine surgery, Chloe hopes to put him into jumping training this spring.

And Nova…. She has been at our Finn Hall training location until today! Nova was recently adopted by John and his wife to be a trail horse with their other beautiful mare (who we helped place into their family, as well!)

Nova’s passion is trail riding… she just needed to find the perfect family…. And now she has!

Congratulations Nova, John, and Karina! 🥂

BIG STRIDES FORWARD!
An update on 4 Fox-Bell Humane Society horses…

Lovely is a beautiful 6 year old off-the-track racehorse (OTTB) who came to us about 2 years ago. The rescue she was with was contemplating euthanasia due to an unknown infection in her sinus. After a number of vet visits and different antibiotics, Fox-Bell was contacted to see if we could step in.

After transporting her to Fox-Bell Farm, we did a deep dive into diagnostics with Dr Youngblood to find a suspicious mass in her sinus.

TWO surgeries (and many months of antibiotics) later, our beautiful girl has recovered and waited for her time to start training.

Being an OTTB, she does not have much of an education, and her strong personality requires an experienced hand. She is currently thriving in training with Fox-Bell, and we expect this mare to be an EXCEPTIONAL athlete….

Indio, another young OTTB, was surrendered to FBHS with a soft tissue injury in his hock and a large bone chip in his knee that made him too painful to ride.

FBHS put Indio through surgery in October and he has recovered beautifully! Today was a big day for Indio…. Trainer Chloe put the first under-saddle training on him. He was very brave!

Elmer, yup, another OTTB…. A very sweet gelding was surrendered to FBHS this fall when his owner fell on hard times.

Elmer required a bit of medical intervention as he was lame on all 4 legs.

He was cleared for riding about 6 weeks ago and is now in training at Fox-Bell.

And sweet Buck… a beautiful palomino QH. Buck was an owner surrender to FBHS when his owner moved and needed someone who could help him medically.

Buck was rescued from a Texas Kill Pen and was brought to Washington. He was unsound, and X-rays showed a very large bone chip in his coffin joint.

At only 5 years old, we knew surgery was a good option. The chip was removed, but unfortunately his recovery has been longer.

Buck has had a series of treatments, and another set of pro-stride injections today….

We are staying hopeful that this will finally be the “ticket” to get this beautiful and kind boy into training so he can start his next chapter….

This is only 4 of our current horses, we have so many more updates coming!

A HUGE THANK YOU to Dr Youngblood who has been there for us every step of the way… from farm visits, preforming surgery, and even helping some of these horses find a safe landing place at FBHS….

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who attended Fox-Bell Humane Society’s first fundraiser for New Years Eve!

Our event was a huge success (and SOLD OUT!) and we look forward to hosting many more events with YOU!

The proceeds from last night will continue to fund our animal rescue efforts! I have SO much to update everyone on!! We have FBHS horses starting training, others that have been cleared from their surgeries, new intakes, and big steps forward in building our new “DOG TOWN”!

“Boots” has made some major progress in the last week. Just a couple sessions and she is wearing a halter, learning to lead, lunge, change direction, and pick up her feet. I think we will be ready for a vet and farrier in a couple weeks! She is so sweet and smart…. But very scared. Today was a different horse! Support your rescue organizations that pull horses from last chance kill pens… these beautiful horses don’t deserve that fate! Boots was one stop away from a Mexican slaughter house when we intercepted in Kaufman, Texas.

Just in time for Christmas! 🎄 For your consideration: “Rebaa” Rebaa is a 5 year old registered Arabian mare standing approximately 15.1 hh. This stunning mare is “leggy”, has four white stockings, and a blaze. At the first event she had ever attended, Rebaa was Region 5 champion in halter as a two year old. Since starting training with me, we have worked extensively on her ground work, liberty work, and being mounted off a block and fence. She will happily meet you at the block without a saddle or rope. Rebaa is W/T/C under saddle and has never offered anything silly with a rider mounted. She wants to please her person, but also wants to have a mutual trust and respect with who is handling her. Rebaa gladly jumps banks and straw bales in hand. She is very brave and follows the feel on the rope well. She would make a fantastic hunter or dressage horse with a little more time. Rebaa prefers a life outside with friends, she is very social and sweet with other horses. Rebaa appreciates a soft, quiet hand and calm leader. If I had the time, I would keep this mare for myself….
