Happy Winter Solstice, friends. Hereโs to germinating new beginnings. We moved the horses from coastal to central NC at Thanksgiving. They were so good about getting in the metal box ๐ Weโre all settling into transitional digs.

Tango would ignore me, dragging me around at the end of the lead rope I used to โcontrolโ him.๐คญ Do you have a project like Tango?
When we began working together, I never dreamed heโd stop eating to check in with me. Sternly reprimanding him escalated to a tug-of-war with no winners.
Competing with grass remains humbly challenging, but now I manage to keep his attention most of the time.
What changed? My leadership style.

It began with recognizing his effort to look in my direction while grazing.

When he accompanies me from Point A to Point B, his negotiating a nibble โ๏ธ doesnโt make him a โdominant horseโ or make me feel insecure about horse training. I blend my agenda with his survival instinct.

I give more than I get, with clear boundaries.

18 months ago, I listened to a small, still voice to relocate to a coastal farm, learn as much as I can from horses, and figure out how we can inspire people to figure out todayโs challenges. Quickly, I heard about a couple of certifications (expert networks) that have been around for decades. Iโm learning as much as I can! Iโve been around horses on and off for years, but this is a new journey. The sunsets reassure me.
When delegation at work goes wrong. Tango, youโre supposed to kick the trough onto its side *after* Iโm done scrubbing it and *before* I start refilling it. AJ, I see you back there, this wonโt reflect on you. Itโs my mistake for not collaborating on a plan. I just did it all myself and expected you guys to stay away, not yet to help out much.

Weโll practice positive reinforcement until theyโre comfortable leading and being led by a human team navigating groundwork obstacles in Equine Assisted Learning.
Pegaso ๐ฆ is 22, very smart, and has ridden in his share of parades. Ciclion ๐งธ is 16, friendly, a beautiful mover, and takes things in stride. I look forward to learning their personalities even more.
