56th entry…,
Hi, I’m Laramie Schultz. I am thirteen years old in the seventh grade at Postville School. I have a 4.0 GPA, in the talented and gifted program, FFA, student council, and play percussion in band. I play for our school’s volleyball team. This year my team won every game but two! I sit through the school year only thinking about one thing, showing.
I have been riding and showing horses my whole life. My grandma introduced showing to my mom when she was a few weeks old. That tradition didn’t change, except I was a few months old when I attended my first show. We currently have two ponies, Ole and Laney. They are both POAs, also known as Ponys Of America. I ride and show Laney, while Ole is my Grandma’s pony. We purchased Sheza Hot Rockin Weedo, Laney, when she was just a 3-year-old. This has allowed us to grow up together since I was only 6. I have shown her in halter, showmanship, hunter under saddle, equitation, western pleasure, horsemanship, games, trail, and recently ranch pleasure. I really enjoy the ranch classes! I feel like it shows that Laney is good at being collected and fast but also being slow and nice. In 2021, my family and I went to the biggest show we have ever gone to, the POA National Congress in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I won Grand Champion in the 9 and under Western Pleasure Walk Trot and 3rd in Hunter Under Saddle Walk Trot (my 2nd time riding in an English saddle). I've never been so proud of something! In the last few years, we have been attending a lot of shows different shows, like DW Productions, Iowa Pinto, Iowa POA, and Western Working Weekend (where we have been High Point 13 and Under for the last 2 years!)
As I stated before, all I think about is showing or working with Laney. I love trying out the different classes and seeing what we can achieve, but most importantly, I love spending time with my mom and grandma, as well as with my horse show friends who have become family. Recently I had a procedure done on my leg and I’m working hard every day to have it strong enough to show this summer!
