56th entry…,

Hi, I’m Laramie Schultz. I am thirteen years old in the seventh grade at Postville School. I have a 4.0 GPA, in the talented and gifted program, FFA, student council, and play percussion in band. I play for our school’s volleyball team. This year my team won every game but two! I sit through the school year only thinking about one thing, showing.

I have been riding and showing horses my whole life. My grandma introduced showing to my mom when she was a few weeks old. That tradition didn’t change, except I was a few months old when I attended my first show. We currently have two ponies, Ole and Laney. They are both POAs, also known as Ponys Of America. I ride and show Laney, while Ole is my Grandma’s pony. We purchased Sheza Hot Rockin Weedo, Laney, when she was just a 3-year-old. This has allowed us to grow up together since I was only 6. I have shown her in halter, showmanship, hunter under saddle, equitation, western pleasure, horsemanship, games, trail, and recently ranch pleasure. I really enjoy the ranch classes! I feel like it shows that Laney is good at being collected and fast but also being slow and nice. In 2021, my family and I went to the biggest show we have ever gone to, the POA National Congress in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I won Grand Champion in the 9 and under Western Pleasure Walk Trot and 3rd in Hunter Under Saddle Walk Trot (my 2nd time riding in an English saddle). I've never been so proud of something! In the last few years, we have been attending a lot of shows different shows, like DW Productions, Iowa Pinto, Iowa POA, and Western Working Weekend (where we have been High Point 13 and Under for the last 2 years!)

As I stated before, all I think about is showing or working with Laney. I love trying out the different classes and seeing what we can achieve, but most importantly, I love spending time with my mom and grandma, as well as with my horse show friends who have become family. Recently I had a procedure done on my leg and I’m working hard every day to have it strong enough to show this summer!

54th entry….

Hi! I'd love to enter my daughter Nova, she is 5 years old, in preschool, recently joined 4h and is involded in multiple show series. Nova is the hardest working little girl I've met. At shows she helps run gates, sets up barrels, waters the arena, if she's asked she does it! She takes pride in her animals both horses and her heifer Dolly. Nova currently runs her sisters pony, and just recently sold her gelding (her choice to find a better fit for her) and purchased a new one with money she's won! She is the type of girl that will put her animals before herself. Nova regularly took lessons at 4 years old weekly. She has solely put all of her time and effort in to her sisters pony to make him the little gamer that he is today!

Currently she is sitting 1st in p*e wee poles at our local show series, and 2nd in p*e wee barrels. She has also placed 3rd in her show series for the 2024 season! Nova has been riding since she got her first pony at 1! Nova has carried the flag for another local show she participates in and absolutely loved it! Although she loves to place, she is just happy to be there and be with her horses!

Nova is a very shy girl, and horses have helped her come out of her shell. She has been able to form new lifelong friendships! She always cheers on her p*ers whether she knows them or not.

Giving Nova the opportunity to raise and train a baby would be a wonderful way for her to see what it takes to get out in to the arena from the ground up. It will let her experience the hardships and that it's not easy. It will teach her life lessons along the way.

53rd entry….another good report card!

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Khloe Campbell. I'm 12-years-old and in the 6th grade. I live in Hettinger, North Dakota on a farm with my family. I am a good student and my grades in school are all A’s. We have raised foals in the past, so I know the work and how to take care of them. I have a passion for horses and love to ride. I have always helped my dad move cows, brand, ship calves and much more. Whenever I get a chance to ride, I never let it go to waste. I have a dream to open a massive Equine Vet in my hometown of Hettinger.

I ride a horse named Callie. She is a money earner in the national cutting horse association and is by the sire High Brow Hickory. She also helped me build my confidence to ride more, especially with barrel and pole patterns. I also ride a horse named Katniss. I did the youth rodeos in Hettinger. Callie and I ran barrel's, poles, and flag race. In my free time I'm ether riding horse or being with my horses. My horse is getting old so this would be a perfect opportunity to raise and train a new horse for me to ride. I have an amazing dad that would help me train it and work me through it. This year I purchased my first filly from a reputable operation. She is a blue roan, and I named her Luna.

I'm in the Wranglers 4-H club where I maintain the role as vice president. I love being in 4-H and getting involved with community activities. Last year I received grand and reserve champion on every static exhibit I entered. I also show sheep, goats, and dairy goats at both the North Dakota State Fair and Adams County Fair. At the county level I received Overall Junior Showman winning a buckle. That was my first belt buckle, so I was so excited. In 4-H, I also participate in livestock judging and am on the junior team. We judge approximately 8 contests before attending and judging at the state level.

My goals are to win a belt buckle in rodeoing and in showmanship at the state fair. I also want to show a blue roan foal at the state fair, and I think this breeding would be great for that dream of mine. Another goal I have is to be able to have my own foal and be able to train it myself. For Christmas I got a lot of horse tack for my horse. We have 4 brood mares that we AI and 6 that we pasture breed. We take them to Dickinson, ND to have them AI’d and again to ultrasound as bred. We would go there in the morning around 6:00 and I would always go with so that meant I had to get up around 5:00 to help get them loaded.

I would be a great candidate for this not only because of our current ranching operation but also because of my future goals of becoming an Equine Vet.

Thank you for this opportunity!

Sincerely,

Khloe Campbell

52nd entry…

Since I was baby, I wanted to ride horses, but my mom would always tell me “No you’re
not a horse girl, you’re a cowgirl, you’re going to show cows one day not horses.” By the
time I was four my parents finally gave in and let me take a riding lesson. The second I got
on the horse my mom knew that there was no chance I was not going to love horse riding.
Hi, my name is Laura Maylene Spratt, and I am a 12-year-old sixth grader at Aucilla
Christian Academy. I am in the Life, Liberty, and Livestock 4-H club in Jefferson County
Florida, and today I will be telling you all about myself and why I would like the chance to
win this breeding.
I like to keep busy at school, church, and at home. At school I have been able to maintain
straight A’s for the last four years. I play softball and volleyball on the middle school teams,
and I am a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I attend church regularly- I am a
member of our youth group, and I sometimes play the piano at church. At home I take care
of my animals with my brother. My mom was not wrong when she said I was going to show
cows because I have shown dairy cows for the last four years in 4-H.
Despite all my activities, horse riding has remained one of my favorites. I have two horses,
one is my hunter jumper and his name is Chrome, he is an off the track thoroughbred and
he is a big baby. Standing at 16 hands tall he thinks he can sit in your lap. My other horse is
a partly retired Quarter Horse, his name is Romeo, and he loves cows. When it comes to
working cows, you do not have to tell him what to do because he already knows. In the
future I would like to use my animal knowledge to go to veterinary school because where I
live there is a shortage of large animal veterinary offices. Raising a c**t by Shake Raddle N
Roan would help me achieve one of my goals which is to raise and train a c**t.
Thank you for this potential opportunity to raise a c**t by Shake Raddle N Roan.

48th entry…

Hi, My name is Ashetyn from Michigan, I'm 14 years old. I would love to get the opportunity to breed one of my horses, to raise and train a baby of my own. The past 2 years have been kinda rough on me and my family. It would definitely benefit us and our farm.

In september 2023 I got my blind appaloosa mare, Tator tot, just to work with her for a couple weeks to see if we could help a friend find her a home. I ended up keeping her for a few months and then got her from my parents as a surprise Christmas present becausethey seen the bond we have. Ever since then she's been my heart horse. I also just got added last year as Youth Ambassador for The Blind Horse Project. We help spread the word that blind horses are not useless and deserve to be loved too. Unfortunately due to her blindness she won't be able to take me to fulfill my dreams.

We got Sweet pea, a grade Appendix mare, in July 2022 because I just couldn't find a safe horse to build my confidence back on and to keep her for my grandma till their retirement home is ready. So we decided to see how she would do being trained for barrel racing and I decided to try English with her for fair and enjoyed it a lot. I also got to go to State for 4H this last year for Gymkhana with her. We placed top 8th in a few classes. She's 18 years old and we tried to breed her because she's an amazing horse with everyone and everything but we just lost the baby in December 2024 when she was six months along. Vet doesn't know why.

We got Finnegan, an OTTB gelding, in March 2024 in a very sad way. He was originally supposed to run his first race but ended up hurting himself right before he got to run. He was then given to a lady my grandma knew who did slow work with him for 4 years. She unfortunately suffered from bad depression and sadly took her own life. Thankfully my grandma ended up getting him and gave him to us. We are so thankful to have him. He's such a good boy. He's good with pleasure, English and jumping. I won reserved grand champion at fair last year with the slow stuff. Unfortunately due to his past injury he can not be a barrel horse.

A baby would benefit me because I could train it and create a strong bond with the baby and my initial goal is to become a successful barrel racer. My dream for my future is to make it to the NFR one day. I have ADD so I struggle in school unfortunately, but my horses are my stress relief and my best friends. I tell them everything and they are always there for me when I need them. I will always be there for them too. Thank you so much for opening up this opportunity for one of us kids to have. Hope to talk to you soon!

44th entry…

Dear West Fork Ranch
Hi my name is Raegin Allison Larsen. I’m a six grader and I live in Renville, Minnesota. I live on
a farm where we farm crops and we have 100 cows, 7 horses, 7 sheep ,4 bunnies,6 dogs, and
we have too many ducks, cats and chickens to count . I also play sports like wrestling. Last year
I went to state and I won state wrestling and I play volleyball plus I play the trombone too. I
mostly ride 3 out of the 7 horses because the others are my family’s and the three horses are
Marley, Kit and Teddy. I run games with Marley at 4h and we get 1st place a lot. Me and Marley
also got to go to our first jackpot this year and got third. She is grade but we think she is 16. Kit
is 8 years old and I do a little bit of games on her and we do ranch rodeos together. Last year
we won our first ranch rodeo and I’m so proud of her. We also do 4h. In 4h we do halter,
showmanship, ranch pleasure, and trail. We got champion on trail . Teddy is new to our farm.
We got him this last year and he is four. I’m starting him on games to be my new full time game
horse and I do ranch rodeos with him too. So that is my three horses. I love them to death. I
feed them so many treats. I don’t know how they are not fat yet. Plus Every summer I do 4h I
show goats, bunnies, and horses. Also during the fair I have lots of fun with my friends and we
go on rides and we chill in the horse barn. During the summer I go to the lake with my mom's
side for a week and I get to see my cousins and we go tubing. Another thing my family does in
the summer is we go to rodeos because my brother bull rides and also I do some mini bull rides,
because one day my brother convinced me to do it and I have won money doing it so i like it .
Also my family goes to a Lutheran church and we put on a christmas play for church this year
and I help put the props out for the play. I want to be a professional barrel racer and go to NFR
and do ranch rodeos for fun.
Thank you West Fork Ranch for reading about my life
