🌟 Mitzie – The Micro Pup 🌟
Mitzie is a spayed female GSD mix, weighing about 50 pounds—perfect for small car lovers! She’s approximately 2 years old, crate-trained, and housebroken. Mitzie’s start to life was tough; she was found in a ditch at just 4 weeks old. Because of this, she’s a little shy with new people, but once she warms up, her spunky personality shines. She gets along well with medium to large dogs and is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative (and on prevention), and walks on a leash (though she’s still perfecting her skills!). Mitzie is a happy, loving girl who just needs a family to call her own.

🌟 Hawk – The Friendly Adventurer 🌟
Meet Hawk, a fun-loving 2-year-old GSD mix who weighs about 60 pounds. Hawk is crate-trained, housebroken, and gets along great with other dogs. He’s up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative (and on prevention), and full of friendly energy! If you’re looking for some excitement and joy in your life, Hawk might just be your perfect match.

🌟 Dozer – The Stick Enthusiast 🌟
Dozer is a unique-looking male GSD mix, approximately 2 years old and 60 pounds of pure joy. He’s crate-trained, housebroken, and knows how to walk on a leash (though he’s still working on mastering it). Dozer LOVES sticks—he’ll carry them, shred them, and make them his own!
Sweet and loving, Dozer does well with other dogs and is ready for a home where he can thrive with love and training.

Boss is a striking German Shepherd Dog with a heart as big as his paws. His journey began on a quiet back road in the North Coast vineyards, where he was left alone and afraid. Concerned locals noticed him and worked tirelessly to ensure his safety, eventually trapping him when his fear made him wary of trust.

Over time, Boss began to open up, showing his true, loving nature to a kind woman who took him in. He greeted her with joyful jumps, sweet puppy kisses, and unwavering loyalty. One night, he even let himself out of the garage to wait by her front door, making sure her boots stayed dry so they could spend the morning together.

Loyalty, unconditional love, and companionship are at the core of Boss’s purpose. Now, he’s searching for a forever home where he can fulfill that mission. Though his affection and eagerness to bond may feel overwhelming at first, with patience and understanding, he promises to become the most loyal friend and steadfast companion anyone could ask for.

Boss is truly exceptional. At around 2–2.5 years old and 80 pounds, he’s not only intelligent but also wonderfully social. He gets along well with other German Shepherds, adores people, and shows no signs of aggression—no food, resource, or barrier guarding. He’s a friendly, well-mannered “velcro dog” who thrives on interaction and being close to his people.

Meet Maximum, or Max for short, a gentle giant with a calm and loving demeanor. At around 6-7 years old and weighing approximately 89 pounds, Max is an older soul looking for a peaceful place to spend the rest of his days.

Most of Max's life was spent on his own, so he's currently learning many new things, like basic obedience and leash walking. He’s a quick learner with a strong desire to please, so it won’t take him long to pick up the rules. For now, he’s settling in at the rescue, enjoying the company of people while also appreciating his independence and the chance to sniff around on his own.

Max is searching for a foster or adopter who can help him continue his journey to becoming his best self. While he’s unsure about other dogs at the moment, he’s certain that a home without cats or livestock would suit him best. Max would thrive with someone who appreciates his gentle nature and is willing to help him on this new chapter of his life.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first Pack Walk of the new year! 🐾 A special shoutout to American River Canine for hosting as always, and to our amazing volunteers, fosters, and alumni families for making it such a wonderful event. It was a beautiful morning filled with socialization, training, and so much fun! 🌞🐶

Sweet Nelly has finally found her forever home after an incredible 569 days at our rescue and with her foster family. Today, our hearts are overflowing with joy, gratitude, and maybe a few (happy) tears. 💖
Fosters like Nelly's are the backbone of our rescue—without them, second chances like this wouldn’t be possible. Nelly found her home with an EDCGSR alumni family, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. While she will never replace your beloved Shep, we know she will help heal your hearts and fill your home with love, joy, and new memories. Nelly’s journey has led her to you, and we know it was worth every step. ❤️ Nelly’s story is a reminder that some things are worth the wait, and every dog deserves a chance at a happily-ever-after.

Meet Lloyd! A 4-year-old German Shepherd with a heart of gold. Lloyd is potty trained, highly food motivated, and has zero reactivity to other dogs. He’s super affectionate, eager to please, and loves leaning into you for attention.

While he can get a little jumpy when he's hungry or overstimulated, Lloyd listens well to commands like "sit down" and will settle quickly. He’s just looking for someone to love him, commit to him, and show him the stability he deserves.

Right now, Lloyd is becoming stressed in the shelter environment, and we’re hoping someone sees the amazing potential in him. With basic positive reinforcement training, Lloyd will thrive in a loving home. 🏡

2024 was an incredible year for EDCGSR! 🐾 We’re thrilled to share that 22 amazing dogs found their forever homes this year, starting a new chapter filled with love and security. 💕 Beyond adoptions, we worked hard to provide resources for our community, from education to support for those in need. Together, we’ve made a real difference in the lives of so many dogs and families.

Thank you to our fosters, adopters, donors, and volunteers for making this possible. Here’s to saving even more lives in 2025! 🎉🐕

Kick off the New Year with us at the January Pack Walk! 🐾 Join us with American River Canine this Saturday, January 4th, for a scenic stroll around El Dorado Hills Town Center. We’ll walk around the Pond, explore Town Center, and make stops at Pet Food Express and Ace Hardware before heading back to the Amphitheater. It’s a great way to start 2025 with your pup! 🐶🎉

Atticus first came to our attention thanks to Randy Robinson from Missouri Flat Animal Hospital, who spotted him through El Dorado County Animal Control. From the moment we met him, Atticus’s boundless energy and spinning excitement left a lasting impression. He was an exuberant pup who made everyone a little nervous with his enthusiasm.
Over time, Atticus was adopted out to three different families, but his high energy proved to be too much for each. By our “three-strike rule,” he earned a permanent place at the rescue, which became his forever home.
In no time, Atticus transitioned into a beloved house dog, energizing the pack with his spins and zest for life. He became a mentor, raising multiple puppies and teaching them the ways of the world.
Atticus’s life was not without challenges. He overcame serious injuries after being hit by a car, proving his resilience time and time again. This past September, even in his older age, he faced GVD (a flipped stomach) and underwent surgery. It was during that surgery that we learned he had liver cancer and only weeks to live.
Despite the odds, Atticus was a true fighter, embracing every moment he had left. At 11 years old, he lived his best life running free on the rescue’s property, enjoying walks with our amazing volunteers, and relishing the peaceful countryside he loved so much.
Atticus was named by young volunteers after the hero in To Kill a Mockingbird, a fitting name for such a remarkable dog. His unwavering spirit, love for life, and impact on those around him have left an indelible mark on our hearts.
Atticus, you were one of the most incredible dogs to ever grace our rescue. Your passing leaves an immense void, but your legacy will live on. We love you, Atticus, and we will never forget the joy you brought to our lives. 🪽
