My babies!

So!!! Update: Padmé was not pregnant and we are trying again in the next month or so. Senator will not be studded as he had a urethral prolapse over the holiday and we made the decision to neuter him due to the amount of necrotic tissue. We didn’t want to lose our baby just to have a chance at breeding. 😬😭😢

Had he been able to be seen sooner and with less necrotic tissue, we would have had different options.

The health of our babies comes first and mine is a learning experience.

This week on MORE DOGS MONDAY:

The St. Bernard was originally a work dog named for the Patron Saint Bernard of Montjoux. This large breed was established for rescue work along the Alps. A short haired dog originally, many of the dogs used in breeding were wiped out during harsh winters from avalanches between 1816 and 1818. In an attempt to preserve the breed those left were crossed with Newfoundlands, which resulted in the long haired version we know and love today.

Consequently, due to the cross breeding, those of us who are lamen are unable to recognize our lovable and furry companions in one of the most famous and influential paintings in pop culture. The St. Bernard was prominently featured in Cassius Marcellus Coolidge’s 1894 painting “Poker Game”. This painting sold at a 2015 auction for a staggering $658,000! Coolidge is responsible for the series known as “Dogs Playing Poker” which is actually not one, but 18 paintings.
