Reins of Rhythm's volunteer run organization has a mission of providing a fun and educational experience through the use of horses in an inclusive environment. We provide lessons for both able bodied riders and riders with special needs. We hold events that encourage riders with special needs and riders who are able bodied to participate together. Riders are educated in all areas of horsemanship a

s appropriate to help develop a complete equestrian education: our focus is always on ABILITIES. Not only are riding skills learned, but also training and handling skills, care of the horse, as well as proper care and use of riding equipment.

Stable Moments is offered at Reins of Rhythm Riding & Horsemanship

Reins of Rhythm is honored to announce we have been selected by the Pennsylvania National Horse Show as a recipient for a grant in support of our Stable Moments - Fostering Hope through Horses programming! This programing is specifically designed for youth who are in or have experienced foster care.
Volunteers at Reins of Rhythm, have received trauma informed training to equip them to offer specialized, one-on-one mentorship along with equine assisted therapeutic services training that cultivates a unique and powerful connection between horse and child. This bond is empowering, and the horses help to meet vital mental and emotional needs, such as belonging, attachment, safety, boundaries and purpose. Did you know that there are over 15,000 youth currently in foster care in PA, and the many more who have experienced trauma, neglect, grief, and other significant challenges? Reins of Rhythm relies on the support of our community to serve youth who are at-risk and under-served populations in Cumberland, Franklin, Dauphin & Adams counties.
Thank you Pennsylvania National Horse Show for helping enrich the lives of youth through your support of Reins of Rhythm and many other equine non-profits in the Pennsylvania!
Do you know a child(ren) who is in or has experienced foster care? We will have openings with very affordable subsidized session rates starting in April! ENROLL HERE:

So the cold weather comes with many challenges, including things breaking due to the extreme cold! After a long hard day of battling the “tundra” doing chores, volunteers went to dump the manure from the dump trailer and sadly the hydraulic lines did not hold up to the below zero temperatures:(
If you could spare $10 this Tuesday to warm our hearts and help us get the trailer fixed we would be so grateful!
We set a goal to raise $500! Thank you for any amount you may be able to give- our community of supporters are what powers our “horsepower”!

Thank you!

The herd enjoyed frolicking in the winter wonderland today while volunteers cleaned paddocks! These pampered ponies are all doing well in the frigid temps, thanks to our team of helping hands. They have unlimited access to hay, full and free flowing water troughs, extra forage mash twice a day, insulated turnout blankets, hooves cleaned to remove ice build up, clean, dry, freshly bedded shelters and lots of pats and rubs to share the love!

01/19/2025

We are asking our community to please pray for our horse care volunteers this week! Working in below zero conditions is extremely challenging and exhausting- but to care for horses you must push through and get it done- they rely on us for all their needs to be met!

Pray also for the horses to withstand the extreme temperature drop and stay healthy. Our team will be working around the clock to check on them and ensure they have all their needs met!

To provide our best to the herd they need a lot of extra hay and feed as they burn a ton of extra calories to keep warm, even with their extra layer of blankets we provide. This means stuffing a lot more hay pillows and nets (which at these temps get frozen and hard to open and close) and making sure plenty of hay is in front of them at all times.

Cleaning paddocks becomes more like chiseling rocks off the frozen ground.

Filling water troughs is a race against how fast the hose freezes up and making sure you don’t get your gloves wet or they freeze instantly.
We are grateful to have water heaters to maintain fresh and drinkable water to the horses 24/7. Electrolytes will be added to their meals to promote them drinking adequate water for hydration.

On average chores takes 2.5 hours for two volunteers and that must happen twice per day. Our volunteers have amazing hearts and care for one another as much as they care for the horses. They have already signed up to do lots of extra shifts alongside each other to have more helping hands on every shift to try to keep everyone safe by limiting how long we must each be outdoors.

We would also ask that you pray for all those who care for livestock, farmers and those who have to work outdoors to be safe and find ways to keep warm in the tundra temps headed our way!

To our friends at GG Equine thank you! These slow feed hay bags are awesome! Our volunteers are thankful to have a supply of plenty of hay stuffed and ready to supply to the herds!

💫At Reins of Rhythm we know that when we invest in the lives of children and teens, we have the opportunity to impact their future, which in turns impacts the future of our community! What is poured into their hearts now is what they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Through the mentoring, therapeutic riding and horsemanship, Stable Moments, and Equine Assisted Learning with Horse Powered Reading we offer, we can give children and teens a listening ear, someone to help them overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams, the chance to ride tall and feel empowered, a chance to learn in an enriching and safe space.
☀️We are a 501c3 nonprofit that is volunteer, and donor driven. Those who give of their time, their funds, their energy - they are our champions! They make it all possible.
Today we celebrate these Champions and highlight those who have already given in support in 2025 though a one-time donation or a commitment of a monthly gift to "adopt" a Reins of Rhythm horse to help off-set their care costs!
