If you have a dog that has a double coat (a soft coat near the body for insulation, and coarser guard hairs covering it), there are grooming challenges, especially in warm weather. Shaving the undercoat is not recommended as it may not grow back properly.

If you have a dog bred for cold regions, you may want to consider a “summer cut” for coping with temperatures in this climate. We will cut the fur shorter, but still leave it long enough so that it is fully grown out when cooler temperatures return.

If you are considering entering your dog in shows and competitions, there are specific requirements regarding grooming and the types of cuts allowable. If you have questions on this matter, we will be glad to help you.

Frequency of bathing is a question that often arises when it comes to grooming. While letting us bathe your pet when he or she begins to smell like a dog is obvious, the coat-type your dog has may require bathing at more frequent intervals.

For the Lamb cut, the feet, face, throat, are shaved and the abdomen is clipped short; the base as the base of the tail is also shaved, but the rest of the tail fur is shaped into a pompom.

For small dogs during the warmer months, the teddy bear cut is one of the most popular and comfortable. The hair on the body is shortened, as is the hair on the face and head, but it is left slightly longer than the body’s. It is not quite as dramatic as a lion cut.

Even dogs with short hair still shed. As with medium and longhaired dogs, regular brushing is the best way to keep the stray hairs off your carpet and furniture. In addition to keeping its coat shiny (and clean), your pet enjoys how it feels.

Diet plays one of the most important roles when it comes to the shine and condition of your dog’s coat. When you bring your pet in for grooming, we can answer any questions you have if you would like to improve the look of your dog’s coat.

Did you know that dogs can develop arthritis? For canines that are not genetically inclined, one of the biggest causes is untrimmed claws, which force it to walk on the sides of its feet to compensate for the discomfort.

Besides keeping the coat of your pet looking great, regular professional grooming also contributes to its health. Not only does it keep the hair and scalp in great shape, but it also makes it easier to spot skin problems that may be developing.

After we have groomed your pet, maintaining its coat at home requires the right tools. Combs with appropriately spaced teeth are important depending on the thickness of the fur and whether it is coarse or fine. We can show you the ideal comb configuration for your pet.
