We just moved cross country with Hadley to Colorado, and man, what an experience. 😅🚗

If you’re planning a road trip, vacation, or big life change with your dog, here are a few things that helped us keep Hadley (and ourselves) sane:
🚗 Car manners matter. Hadley knew how to chill in the car, and it made a huge difference.
📋 Routine = comfort. Even when everything’s changing, keeping a sense of normalcy helps your dog feel more secure.
🎢 Big transitions are tough on everyone—even the “easy” dogs. Expect some hiccups and roll with it.

Swipe for more tips on making your dog’s journey (and yours) easier during life transitions!

And if you’re about to move or need help with transitions, I’m here to support you and your dog every step of the way. DM me or check the link in my bio! ❤️

A huge congratulations to Winnie and her mom for graduating from Private Lessons! 🎓

When we started working together, Winnie was a new addition to her family, and her mom was eager to dive in and commit fully to the process. Adding an adult dog to your home can be overwhelming, but thanks to her proactive approach, we were able to address potential issues early on, helping Winnie settle in with minimal hiccups. Her great temperament didn’t hurt 😉

Winnie’s owner now has the skills to communicate effectively, advocate for her needs, build a strong, lasting bond- and ensure all animals in the home can coexist peacefully. I’m so proud of their hard work! This is just the beginning 💫

If your dog doesn’t know to look to you for attention and direction, how can you expect them to reliably respond to your asks? Way too many owners expect their dog to inherently care about their asks and look to them without setting the right foundation.

The first step to having a dog with reliable obedience is a dog that engages, looks to you for direction and guidance and sees you as relevant in their world.

How do you get there? Through intentional interactions, consistency and a healthy relationship built on trust, clear boundaries and respect. From there, just about anything is possible ❤️

Reactivity is the #1 issue my clients deal with. It isn’t fun, and I get it. But you may be unknowingly contributing to your dog’s reactivity by patterning some of these common things I see. Focus less on the big moments and more on the little moments. They add up, fast!

If your dog struggles with reactivity inside or outside the home, try to tackle some of these and see if your dog’s behavior improves.

Being proactive is 🔑 to minimizing stress for you and your dog on July 4th!

🧘Use your dog’s crate to provide a familiar, secure, and safe spot for them to hang during the fireworks or festivities.

🐾Get their activity out of the way early in the day so they’re physically fulfilled and ready to relax!

🪪Ensure their ID tags are secure and up to date in the chance of a worst case scenario.

🦴Prep some fun enrichment to soothe their mind and keep them busy.

💊If you plan to use CBD, you’ll want to build it up in their system so start it up ASAP! If your dog needs prescription meds, be sure you’re stocked up on those as well.

🦮Avoid off-leash activity and use a leash anytime your dog’s outside, even in the yard. Especially if you’ve got a flight risk!

🔋Charge up ecollar/tools so you can give clear guidance during times that your dog may be distracted or anxious.

Don’t wait until the 4th to implement this calm, structured routine or prep spaces, get started TODAY to set them up for success! 🎆

No, seriously!

Imagine someone expecting you to want to invite every single person you meet over for dinner. Not happening, right? Some people we click with, others we don’t. Nothing wrong with that.

So why do we expect something so different from our dogs? Too many owners expect and want their dog to be friends with, or even get along with, every dog they meet. That is not only unrealistic but also unfair pressure to put on our dog.

If your dog is selective, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them. Find a small circle of dogs they click well with and stick to that. If they aren’t fans of other dogs at all, that’s okay too! So many ways to enrich our dogs’ lives that don’t include meeting randos on the sidewalk ❤️

Whether you’re moving to a new space, bringing home a baby, adding a new member to the pack, or any other significant life transition, it’s important we keep our dogs in mind. It’s not abnormal for dogs to struggle during a change in environment, routine, etc. This can often be seen as “acting out” when in reality they are desperate for some clear direction in a time of chaos and disruption to routine. 🌪️

As owners, it is OUR job to set our dogs up for success during those times. Better yet? Be proactive vs reactive! Expect your dog to struggle with minimal support.

Here are some ways you can set you and your dog up for a much more peaceful and successful transition! If you have a solid foundation of training to fall back on this is a big help. Every dog is different and will need a different level of support and guidance.

Have you and your dog struggled during a life transition before?

Anxious dog owners: I see you and I AM you! Anything you would add? 💬

Owning an anxious dog is not easy. Especially a genetically anxious one. It can be exhausting, overwhelming, and at times really daunting to work through the challenges. BUT it is also one of the most rewarding journeys to be on as a dog owner. ✨

If any of these resonate, share to spread the word! ❤️
