This guy is cripplingly cute.

While your puppy is still working on developing their manners, short spurts of exposure to high excitement situations while you can supervise and make sure your puppy isn’t doing any behaviors you are trying to eliminate (like mouthing, jumping, begging, eating things off the floor, chewing etc) is better than unlimited freedom before they are ready for it.

In the end, this will prepare your puppy to have that freedom later… without the negative behaviors or the need to watch them so closely when they are older.

Enzo enjoyed the holiday fun. 😁

Training your dog is not just about them learning how to sit or what it means to come to you when you call for them. Honestly, most dogs “know” understand these concepts when they show up for training. (They just don’t do it when you need them to… big difference)

The goal of training is simply to be able to have stronger relationship with everyone in your family (not only your dog) and less overall stress and worry.

…At least that is the goal of the training we do.

In this picture Alice is holding a “place” command (on the most suitable object we had) while the kids run and play and swim and splash and the adults are making sure the food is taken care of and everyone is safe.

Having periods of time where there isn’t concern about Alice getting into things, trying to find food someone left on the ground escaping the fence or bothering someone who doesn’t want her staring at them while they eat… is a big deal.

Of course she still needed supervised and she did need corrected for coming off place at times… This was a big challenge for a 5 month old puppy.

But mom and dad got some relief from having to watch the puppy like a hawk while also chasing around all the kids AND Alice is becoming more and more equipped to be in these situations in the future while having less and less input from mom and dad.

Way to go Alice & fam! 👏👏
