Please do not share to try to pass his info along since Sancerre is no longer available. He unfortunately passed away last March after we discovered he had a tumor in his chest that had ruptured. Sancerre had untreatable cancer as well as malformed organs from malnutrition in utero. He had misshaped heart valves, kidneys and his lungs were half the size they should have been ontop of having cancer. This sweet boy was dealt a terrible hand in the wild and he will be dearly missed ❤️

(Pending!)

Due to a scheduling conflict Sancerre and I won’t be able to make the competition in March. With that being said he is ready to find his forever home! He has to go to someone who is BLM approved!

Sancerre (AVAILABLE for reassignment w/ training fee)
HMA: South Steens (out of Chablis & Arrow)
Age: 1 year old in April
Height: 13.2 at the shoulder

Sancerre is a literal dream. This cutie came home your best friend and has such a sweet and calm demeanor. It has been beyond difficult not to get attached and want to keep this boy for myself. He is a bottom of the herd kind of horse and loves hanging out with his buddies. Not once while working on feet did he offer to kick, and it has stayed that way. He is still a baby with a baby brain. Every once in a while he plays hard to catch if he’s having fun with his friends, but he is an absolute sucker for treats. He will come running if you have them and put a halter on in no time. I do not love lunging but he knows how to do it. He definitely would rather walk and hangout than run. He is seriously going to make someone so so happy! ❤️

What he knows:
-Leads
-Picks up all 4 (stands amazing for the farrier)
-Halter broke & self halters
-Ponies off of other horses
-Lunges (more woah than go with this guy)
-Stands for body clipping
-Lays down (a fun trick)
-Stands great for being blanketed
-Loads (will walk in and can be sent in)
-Ties

If you are interest please comment so I can send you a message. Facebook likes to not let people send me messages so I do not receive a lot of the ones I’m sent!

Some update photos on Sancerre!
(AVAILABLE in March through Teens & Oregon)
-
South Steens HMA
Around 9 months old (estimated based on photos in the wild)
Around 13hh-13.1hh at the shoulder
Parents are both around 15hh-15.2 so I suspect he should finish out around there.

He’s a little muddy and wet in these, but it’s been raining or snowing on and off for weeks. Our area is a little bit of a mud pit, so I’m trying my best to keep him clean. I wanted to get some good confirmation photos of him to share for potential adopters!
-
He’s honestly an amazing little horse. He’s never offered to kick or has any mean bone in his body. Let me pick up his back feet first time ever asking if that says anything with no issues. He leads, picks up all four, ties, (loading is next), knows how to lay down, almost perfect with self-haltering, blankets are no problem, and loves attention & treats. He has his first farrier appointment on the 19th. He is extremely mellow and I have only ever seen more woah than go with him when doing anything.
-
Sancerre is seriously such a special guy. When the other horses pick on him he won’t go back he just would rather walk away. I’ve never seen him kick or bite one of our boys ever, and he loves hanging around with our boys. He is very quiet and just likes to follow you around and be in your space. Everytime you give scratches he immediately wants to put his head on your shoulder and cuddle. If I didn’t already have 2 I would definitely be keeping him because he’s that special ❤️

It’s definitely messy but today was the first day working on self haltering. I filmed 8 minutes the wrong direction and of course it was the 8 minutes of perfection. He was putting his nose in perfectly each time, coming right when I clicked and shook the halter, and not trying to eat the halter as I put it on. But nothing about training horses is always perfect, so here is the messy last few minutes when I turned the camera the right way. I want Sancerre to get to the point that if I shake the halter and call him he will come right over. After he gets to me he will also know to put his nose right in the halter (a lot of people call this skill self haltering). I do not like hard to catch horses and I want this guy to have a solid base before he goes to meet his new person.
-
To start I would reward him any time he came up to me from a distance. After doing that a few times and him getting solid on it we worked on grabbing treats through the halter. That way he gets used to putting his nose into the halter after he comes up to me. We then got to the point I just had to shake the halter and he would walk up to me and put his nose in. For his first day and only working on it for about 20-30 minutes this little guy rocked it!
-
The last half was a little rocky because the halter was cold and kept getting stuck while I tried to move it.. as well as getting treats stuck in my pocket 😬 Oops. But I wanted to share the video anyways even though these last few times were the messier ones. I swear I know how to put on a halter the right way but it was freezing at this point and my brain wasn’t working. He was also getting tired and I didn’t want to push too much after the last clip of my butchering trying to put it on.
-
I want to make sure everyone sees the bad attempts as well as the good ones. Not everything will go right the first time.. or last. So I think showing the bad days or bad attempts shows a lot more transparency than just him getting every thing perfectly. I obviously rushed the last clip and that wasn’t his fault. I was cold and wanted to end the session and rushed him. We still got the halter on but it wasn’t one I wanted to end on so we did do it a couple more times correctly after (not rushed).

Hey everyone!! Sancerre is doing good sorry for the lack of posting. Ive been sick and trying to get over it while also being out of town. He is doing good! It has been extremely cold and wet here so our round pen is a bit of a mud ice combo. I don’t want to risk him slipping on the ice, so I have just been working on touching all over, leading and catching. He gets nervous when you walk up to catch him but once he sniffs your hand he’s all over you. He’s definitely a shy little guy but he’s super sweet and cuddly once he realizes it’s you.

Worked on leading and front feet yesterday! He did really well with leading, he is just a very slow moving horse. Took a walk to the round pen and I’m a slow walker myself, but I had to keep stopping to let him catch up 😂 He did great about feet on his left side, but was a little mouthy on the right. Didn’t bite but he liked to grab a handful of my sleeve with his mouth and hold it. I’m still working on getting him better about that side because it is his harder side. But overall for his first day of feet and leading went amazing!

My page won’t update to the new layout so I can’t upload more than one video at a time, or upload videos and pictures together. So I had to make a little video with all the highlights put together!

Sancerre had lots more energy this evening and his snotty nose has cleared up! I changed out his halter after grabbing one that would be a better fit for his little head. I’m hoping to work on leading tomorrow and haltering so he can go out with the boys soon! He is so cute and such a lovey little guy, not to mention a talker and it’s adorable. Since we haven’t been doing much I just took a quick video tonight of some loving on him so that everyone can get a chance to see what a sweetie he really is. I’m definitely someone who constantly talks to my boys when giving love and I don’t realize it until watching these back 😂❤️

I snugged up his halter right after this just incase anyone was worried about it.

He’s got a pretty good snotty nose so we made a call to the vet and will be monitoring him. It’s common for mustangs to come home a little sicky just from the environment change (every one I’ve ever brought home has had a cold for the first few weeks after getting them home, or even just a runny nose of some kind). I wanted to be more careful than not, so we cleaned out a stall we had that’s fully covered and set it up for him.
-
The weather has not been very nice, so I grabbed him a better fitting blanket that’s quite a bit warmer and got him comfortable. He had access to a stall but wasn’t really using it. I put him in it for the night so he was in there out of the rain/snow and gave him some love. Hoping he starts to feel a little better in the next couple days, but for now I’m not wanting to push him. He was however amazing for switching out the blanket on him and definitely doesn’t mind being cozy ❤️

Very eventful first day for this guy! Switched out his halter because it was way too big on him and got him into a blanket. There’s rain in the forecast and I’d rather him be dry with how cold it is. Going to have to grab a new one tomorrow because this one is a little snug on him. Am super excited to see where this little one goes! ❤️

He is so cute and has such a sweet face. He also has a very mellow personality! We got to see him interact with the other babies before the wranglers brought him up. He doesn’t really seem to care about the other babies too much. He was totally content just standing calmly watching everyone else. He had other babies trying to wrestle him, biting him and trying to kick and he would just slowly walk away or stand there ignoring them. He’s going to be such a sweetheart to work with!

Due to being out of town I will be picking up late at 10am on December 8th instead of this weekend like everyone else. Just thought I’d share a little update for those following along! Here’s a fun video of him at the corrals my friend Maddie Siler grabbed for me when she visited. I am so beyond excited to get this pretty little guy home!

Also how cute are those little ears? They’re my absolute favorite! ❤️

So now that I know my pick for the Teens And Oregon Mustangs event this winter/early spring! I’d like to welcome my pick. He’s from the South Steens HMA and actually has a name given to him by the Steens followers (which I’m not sure exactly if I’ll call him by or not, I want to meet him first). He’s a weanling and was actually documented in the wild before roundup! So here’s this little cutie. He is a buckskin pinto out of the Arrow band and his dam is Chablis. I’ll try to find photos of mom as well and post them in the comments ❤️
