I have been thinking about how many memories include specific pieces of jewelry. This was my Dad’s watch for decades. He was a carpenter/builder, then a farmer. Every morning he would loop the chain around his belt loop and slide it into the watch pocket of his work pants. Every evening he would do the reverse, wind it and place it with his change on the dresser. I remember the exact movements he made to check the time. All I have to do is see the watch and the memories are like yesterday.

He bought this watch used in 1947 for $35. The chain’s catch is broken and the watch now runs slow. Daddy gave it to my husband as a keepsake in 2004 but I keep it on my work desk. Daddy will be 98 in a few weeks.

Every now and then I go through my “scraps” and clean the larger pieces. Most of them - who am I kidding - ALL of them are where I messed up and chucked it. I am removing bezels, and filing off bits of solder and rough edges. Hammering to straighten and flatten the pieces. Then anneal and pickle. The big file is part of my birthday from hubby. More rings and pendants coming soon.

Metal measuring tape with adhesive back from Rio. I put it on the edge of my main work table. The tape has mm and inches. It is four foot long. And it keeps tiny bits from rolling off to the bottomless pit of the floor. Big win-win. 😋 I’m sorry I don’t remember who suggested it - Tonya or Francesca? Thank you for this great tip.
