Sid demands that his pedicure is done while he lounges in his pool-chair with nice music in the background. The number of goats that sit this nicely for a hoof trimming...I could count on one hand π
I would like to stress that Sid was completely comfortable with me holding his leg up and if he didn't like it, he'd let me know! I feel like the angle looks weird on video

After showing off her new tap dancing routine, Kitty let me trim her hooves. Her rear hooves have always been a little hard to look at, and you can see that the outer toe grows much faster than the inside one. With a little tailored trimming she is ready to go.
Hoof trimming is so much easier when everyone is on board. Bobby and I have an agreement that I can trim his front hooves if I ask nicely π I can get the rear ones while he's laying down.

It takes me approximately 5 minutes to trim most goats hooves.
Efficiency prevents goats from becoming overly stressed and allows me to help more goats per day π
If left unchecked, hoof wall separation gets worse. It can be managed with frequent trimming, but here's a method I've come up with to nip it in the bud.
First, trim your hoof and identify the pocket. Clean it up and remove as much loose hoof wall as you can.
Second, use a dremel to flatten the hoof wall as much as you can. Never press down for longer than a second with the tool while working so close to the sensitive laminae. It gets hot quickly and can hurt your goat!
Lastly, apply a hoof product that targets white line disease. I use "Veterycin mobility hoof care". I'm not at all sponsored by them, it's just what works!
I usually see this problem in wet environments. Dirty stalls, muddy entryways, and marshy fields are huge culprits. At the end of the day, it's not a big deal if your goats have this. It's hard to get rid of, it doesnt directly hurt them, and even if I use this method on your goats it sometimes comes back with the wet weather. The key is be persistent and take preventative measures when you can!

Trimming a black hoof
Trimming a dark black hoof as requested. Its the same as a white hoof really, get those toes short and even, but stop if you see pink. You can keep trimming the tip of the toe back as long as long as you see the white powdery substance, but every hoof is different and you can always reach out to me for advice.
Sometimes elderly goats have thin soles and you don't need to trim that area at all.
The shears i use are ARS brand, for those wondering π
