DONT open if you don’t want to see medical stuff-
As a trauma RN, I have seen a lot of stuff, and emergency medicine is something I truly admire. I posted about Poppy yesterday, and how she got mauled; the outside visible injuries were nothing compared to the internal damage. When a dog/coyote/predator wants to kill an animal it goes for the neck, and then shakes it. Poppy had a laceration on her neck, but when she was under anesthesia they were able to assess that the skin around her neck all the way over her shoulders and down her back is DETACHED from her body!!! OMG! This is unfamiliar to me…
She had surgery to place drains, close multiple lacerations and clean her up. My dearest thanks to the entire staff at Valley Vet who took us in on an emergency basis, and stayed late to take care of Poppy. Dr Catila, a 29 year vet and a former RN herself, put Poppy back together. She is my hero, and works with Dr Novy.
Poppy got into this trouble by doing the unthinkable. No one could have anticipated she would find a way to dig under and into a kennel with 2 big dogs- why would she do that??? All involved feel terrible, but we will-and are- caring for our loving Poppy.
As a rescue, when we take on these dogs they are our responsibility, come what may.
Our vet bill for yesterday was almost $2,000.00. We stay prepared for emergencies, but this hit us hard. We are so grateful for any donations for the vet bill…
Thank you for your support of our mission and our journey helping dogs…
