At StartOrganic

, we believe there is great power in hyper-locally sourcing your daily food. We provide employees and home gardeners with detailed and up-to-date knowledge of how to best grow 100% organic foods in your garden, neighborhood, and in your workplace. Not only are hyper-local foods better tasting, healthier and more nutritious, but growing your own food also has many other fundamental benefits:

• Tending to a garden can literally make you happier, due to the brain interaction of the organic soil and plant components, as well as the satisfaction to eat what you have tenderly grown yourself;

• Children show far greater desire and pro-activeness in eating fruits and veggies when they are familiar and educated in the food growing process;

• Growing your own food is a far more sustainable and earth-friendly way to save money and all those endless trips to the grocery store;

• Freshly picked fruits and veggies are an unparalleled source of high quality nutrients and minerals;

• Home gardens have shown to significantly improve and engage entire communities;

• An employee garden in corporate offices have shown significant increase in work productivity and employee satisfaction (there is nothing like taking food home from your own box at work!);

• Growing your own food takes you 'off the grid', and lessens the demand for less nutritious produce that come from large, polluting corporations who seek profit above quality. We can think of countless more reasons why growing your own food is the best move you can make for your future, but Facebook has a limit on the amount we can write on this section. You can better your future one plant at a time. The best part is that StartOrganic is here to help you do just that, totally hassle-free, and with a lot of fun! Contact us to learn how we can help you take out your lawn - or the lawn in your office grounds - and place a gorgeous edible garden in its place. We promise you, it will be a decision you will cherish for life. Check out our website (www.startorganic.org), for more info on how to start your own garden. Update: We are now also on instagram! Are you ready for the winter solstice? ❄️
Also called the hibernal solstice, the winter solstice occurs when either of Earth’s poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. The winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, and when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky. Each polar region experiences continuous darkness or twilight around its winter solstice.

Do you COMPOST? 🥗🥚🍌
Compost contains the three primary nutrients plants need: nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. It feeds the plants that grow in this soil and it does so using existing materials, many of which are free or byproducts of the food system already. Compost also increases the number and variety of beneficial bacteria and fungi in the soil, which helps plants grow.
Have you tried it? What’s your experience composting? 🤔

Aside from being the iconic flower of the Day of the Dead, celebrated today, Marigolds have pest-repellent qualities. 🕷️🌼
This vibrant colored flower protect tomato crops because they naturally disperse a chemical known as limonene into the surrounding air. The insects hate the smell of limonene and stay away from the Marigolds and any nearby plants!
Happy Dia de Los Mu***os! 💀

How Can You Tell If Soil Is Healthy? Just Listen to It.

Ground-breaking “ecoacoustics” use underground critter concerts to monitor a hidden ecosystem.

“You can actually use sound to listen to the soil, and get an indication of soil health, based on the little critters moving around,” says Jake Robinson, a microbial ecologist at in Australia. He’s the lead author of a study just published in the Journal of Applied Ecology that found that ecoacoustics, or the study of environmental sounds, can not only be used to detect organisms in the soil, but also mined to identify the difference between restored and degraded land.

Now that’s music to our ears! 🪴
