What happens when Myopia Hounds can’t hunt any more?

For a variety of reasons, sometimes hounds need to retire- we work hard to find them wonderful pet homes when they are ready! Here’s an update on Myopia Lupy, who retired to a family right before thanksgiving!

Former hunting hounds make great family pets once they settle in and learn their new life style!

A long standing and lovely tradition, Thanksgiving Day Hunt with the Myopia Hounds.
We welcomed the rain and rain jackets too, after a long drought our hounds found it refreshing!
We had a lot to be thankful for, our hounds, our staff, landowners, volunteers, patrons, members, riders, and spectators!
One tradition we have is to award colors - to acknowledge subscribers/members who have not only hunted with us for a number of years but who have also participated and volunteered in the hunt community.
Congratulations are in order for all who received their colors and to the juniors who were awarded their patch!
Cheers to another wonderful year!

A Big thank you to Appleton Farms and Trustees of the Reservations for hosting our traditional Thanksgiving Hunt!

Much of our route is held on private property because of the generosity of landowners, the best spots to see the action are outlined on the Appleton map!

Why no hounds today?

Simply stated; Safety!

The 20-30mph winds expected during our meet this morning creates a dangerous work environment for our hounds and our Fox (Sam King).

In the woods the winds will bring down branches unexpectedly- and could fall on a hound or The Fox.

The scent that we put down (since we are a drag hunt) will not remain in its intended location in high winds, which could lead the hounds to unintended areas and put them in danger.

Lastly- we keep track of our hounds and guide them using sound (our voices and the horn) in high winds they may not be able to hear each other or The Huntsman- creating situations where they could become lost or disoriented in the woods.

We look forward to seeing everyone this morning for a different type of adventure!
