Just a friendly reminder! If your dogs are afraid of fireworks (I’d say 8.5 times out of 10 they are!) Then keep them inside for the night. Maybe even turn on some dog tv to drown out the noise. If you do take them out… be sure to use a leash (not just because it’s the LAW… but also if your dog gets spooked… well they are attached to you.) Also make sure to have a collar with some kind of identification on them.
I also just want to say, if somehow you do lose your pet… POST ABOUT IT! If you see a pet that isn’t yours, running loose… POST ABOUT IT!!! Description of the dog. Color/Size/Breed. Area where you saw it last. Which direction it was heading. Even better if there’s a photo. Call it in as well. If you can’t reach us because it’s after hours… call the appropriate law enforcement (Chp/sltpd/edso) and they will dispatch an officer for the appropriate priority response.
There have been so many dogs that get picked up Whether by a Good Samaritan or one of our officers. No microchip. No collar. No tags. What are we to do?!? Those of us working at the animal shelter will come looking in these groups for dogs that have been reported as missing. WE WANT YOUR DOGS TO GET BACK HOME to you. You gotta give us something to work with.
If you have a dog that is frightened by strangers… write your phone number very large on a light colored jacket. That way if someone can’t get close, they can still snap a picture of the number and give you a call with your pets location.
I hope this is helpful. I hope you and your pets are safe going into the new year. Happy holidays. Picture of a cute shelter kid named Ace for fun.
