We only get snow once every few years here in North Carolina. Rhubarb loved playing in it today, and I loved watching her. ❤ Does your dog love snow? Drop a pic below!!!
Here's my dog Rhubarb opening one of her gifts. She's so adorable. 😍
Wishing our Rhubarb a very happy 6th birthday! 🥳🎈❤
Breakfast Snoop Skill Level: EXPERT
Coming when called: many people struggle when trying to teach this skill to their dogs. We were outside playing in the snow today, a rare event in NC, and I captured Rhubarb's recall for you to watch. This is what a good recall looks like. I can help you to teach YOUR dog to come when you call. You know where to find me! ;)
Here is some nice play between Rhubarb and Sooner. Rhubarb is 2 years old and Sooner is 12 weeks old. It's important for puppies to be exposed to good, stable adult dogs that are friendly and that are very social with other dogs. Puppies can be a lot to handle. Watch a short clip of Rhubarb enticing a game of keep away with Sooner.
Rhubarb and her Slow Feeder
Rhubarb and her new slow feeder. :D Check it out.
Our dogs are learning from us all the time. Look what Rhubarb just learned in about 5 seconds!!!! Smarty pants. Note to self: ensure cap is on bottles 100% of the time, because all behaviors that are reinforced are more likely to be repeated. Rhubarb obviously finds knocking over this bottle very reinforcing, either because it's fun or because she can make me set it up for her. On the other hand, I keep setting it up for her because I find it reinforcing when she knocks it over. :D #dogs #dogtraining
A dog's jaws are incredibly strong. Check out Rhubarb, my 9 month old puppy, just squashing her Jolly Ball. This toy is very, very hard. She bites it like it was made of foam, yet she is very, very gentle on human skin. Teaching your puppy bite inhibition is extremely important! Check out the power here. :D
Rhubarb loves her new Kong Jumbler. Heavy duty, squeeks, tennis ball tumbles around inside, handles to carry it. Tired out in 15 minutes! :D
Food served out of a bowl is so boring! :D Using food dispensing toys is one way to break the boredom but we found that some dogs get over excited or frustrated with these toys. Also, the repetitive motion of nudging/nosing the toy posed a problem for my dog's neck and spine over time. Check out how we feed our puppy, Rhubarb. It's a great game that uses a dog's love for scavenging and provides a wonderful enrichment activity for a growing puppy.
I ask clients to use food dispensing toys rather than simply feeding their dogs from a bowl. It's so much more fun and engaging for the dogs! This is little Rhubarb meeting the Kong Wobbler for the first time. What food toys are your dogs' favorites?
This is a great interactive toy called a Tornado, designed by Nina Ottosson from Sweden. Wylie has only tried this a few times. She loves it. It plays into a dog's basic nature as forager. Snuffling for food is fun and rewarding!
