Yesterday was a big day, we got the keys to the new salon and ordered all the supplies. The dogs approved and we can't wait to share this journey with you!!
To my amazing clients: your SoPo Groomer is moving. My last day with Pet Supplies Plus will be 8/18. I have been blessed beyond measure for all who have helped me get to where I am in the corporate setting these past two years. This doesn’t mean it's over…I am in the process of getting established as a small business owner. My goal is to be ready to open the first week of September and as always I will keep you posted.
Send help!!!! Grooming a dog who doesn't like brushing and is severely impacted is hard. Today we were wearing goggles and masks while we worked to remove as much hair as possible to avoid shaving. Dogs with double coats like huskies are blowing coat this season and when it's impacted there is no where for it to go... so we need to do the dirtiest things possible and we blow dry the dirty coat which removes hair and covers us in dander... Allergies beware!!!
We never want to be a reason for fear in a dog. That doesn't mean all dogs will love grooming but they can learn to trust us and understand it's part of their life. The sooner you get dogs in... As early as 8 weeks, the easier it is to desensitizie to all the parts of being groomed. We cautiously introduce everything and use positive reinforcement to make the experience as easy as possible. They can be cautious and uncomfortable but should never feel this kind of fear in the salon. This was a dogs first time with me while his groomer is out sick. Needless to say I decided not to further traumatize him but to have an honest convo with the parents and record so they understood my concerns. Compassion is key. Plus setting the dog up for failure to bite me isn't fair to either of us.
Trust and consistency is key in Grooming. Camper wasn't always this calm but look at how amazing she is with all the dates work at the salon and at home!!!!
