SF Starstuck went to the North Woods Dressage Association show. We won some cool things and a huge pony ribbon! My absolute favorite! Thanks to everyone who works hard to make this a fun, welcoming show.

We still have a long way to go before we're good at fourth level, but Felix is always willing to try! I cannot express how much I adore this pony. Even when he shows off his expressive changes in the warm up or has a meltdown when his horse show best friend/neighbor gets fed while his hay bag is clearly empty!

This was our last planned show of the season. We'll spend the rest of the summer, fall and winter chipping away at all the little things.

(And I didn't go off course, so that's a win!)

Show season 2024 continued at Otter Creek this past weekend. SF Starstruck and I dipped our toes into 4th level for the first time. What a thrill to canter down the centerline! I had quite a few bobbles and went off course (again!), but Felix did all the things necessary for us to eek out the scores for the first half of our silver medal!

Now we'll stay home and work on ballet-style flying changes vs. dolphin leaps, "pew pew" medium trots and "hiyah" canters while the youngsters get their turn in the ring.

As always, thanks to the Sweet Water Equestrian crew and Julie for letting me hang out and for commiserating about dressage and life.

If there were an Olympics for silly riding and silly problems, I'd be a gold medalist after Otter Creek.

How does someone go off course TWICE in FIRST LEVEL test WITH a reader? Talent. Serious talent.

A neck curling issue that has been rearing it's ugly head with my lovely Presto didn't just magically go away at a horse show? Crazy.

Despite the costly errors, I am so proud of my shortest member of the pony army. He has started to figure out being the smallest thing in the crowded warm up does not mean you have to practice your Taekwondo skills; leafs make funny noises when you step on them; trail riding between the rings is actually a skill and lots of people will want to call you a charming cutie patootie.

Thanks to the awesome group from Sweetwater Equestrian for allowing me to invade your space all weekend and for the bestest horse show buddy for keeping the libations flowing. Next show I'll try to actually do something correctly.

SF Starstruck's 2023 Handgrazing The Upper Midwest Showgrounds Tour had its last stop at Region 4 Regionals.

Felix was inexplicably footsore for two weeks prior to the show. Nothing like attending the biggest show of the year after an extended vacation. We had inconsistencies and lots of bobbles that were reflected in our scores but I'm proud of him for really trying despite the heat and lack of preparation.

Felix also learned a neat new trick of dismantling temporary stalls, so I have that to look forward to next season. If you ever need help putting stalls back together, Julie and I are pretty much experts.

Thanks to Kate and Julie for the photos and video; Teresa, Julie, Christina and Leah for being barn buddies and special thanks to Brittany for adjusting my saddle during the show! Thankful for the whole amazing, supportive village.

Another weekend spent with friends at NWDA's Cooler by the Lake horse show.

SF Smoke & Mirrors got his temporary pony card for the year. At 145.5cm, he even has some room to grow and still be an official pony!

We showed Training 1 and 3 both Saturday and Sunday. There were some very obvious young horse moments but also some very lovely ones that resulted in a 70.577% at Training 1 on Saturday. We ended up as the high point pony, winning a very fancy ribbon!

Go ponies!

My lovely SF Smoke & Mirrors went to his third show ever. This lovely little talented gem of a pony trooped through all the things I threw at him, including torrential rainfall.

Although we're still figuring out this showing thing, we got solid advice from a friend to trot where we're supposed to trot and canter where we're supposed to canter. Following those shrewd directions, we scored as high as 67%. He's now qualified for Regionals at training level.

I also had the pleasure of watching RRF-bred Wrayza (Stibby Me x Wonderful) being shown by her new junior rider. It's exciting to see them grow their partnership.

First show of the season at the lovely Otter Creek.

SF Starstruck is qualified for Regionals at Third Level. We also got the required score to put together a Third Level freestyle!

After a very (very) long winter I'm looking forward to the rest of the show season.

SF Smoke & Mirrors went to his second show!

This lovely gem of a pony proved (again) that he is remarkably smart and sensible. He even managed to get 64% at Training Level Test One despite some bobbles.

This weekend SF Smoke & Mirrors (Presto to his friends) went to his very first schooling show in Iron River. It was his first time in a slant load and his third time away from home. My main goal was giving him a good experience and not causing any death.

Presto warmed up beautifully on Friday. I even felt confident enough to canter in all the rings.

Saturday was cool and rainy which brought out a little bit of extra spice. (Is it really a show in Iron River if there isn't some sort of interesting weather?) He was a bit overstimulated by all the horses in the warmup, umbrellas, metal bleachers, all manner of dogs, judges folding papers and small, exuberant humans. None the less, he trooped through Intro A and Intro B. Each test got a bit steadier with a little less tension.

Sunday this little gem got even better. He handled the warmup like a champ, considered walking by the judge's booth by himself and even handled me going off course without any ruffled feathers. He even won the Intro A class!

I'm having so much fun with this pony!

Thanks to Brittany and Julie for the photos and video!
