Poor little Bentley had fleas, a few mange spots, and a bad case of roundworm when we got him on the 11th.

Calendula Balm (that I make), Diatomaceous Earth, and Pyrantel Pamoate to the rescue!
We couldn't get him in with the holistic vet until tomorrow.
I'm happy to report that a week later, his mange spots have healed, and the de-wormer induced diarrhea has subsided. (Blueberries and pumpkin helped!)

Let me introduce you to one of my top 5 most important herbs that needs to be in your pet’s life, if it isn’t already!

Milk thistle!

This herb has been used for over 2,000 years to help fix a zillion different problems!

Recently, scientists from the Radiological Physics and Advisory Division in India found in their study on milk thistle that silibinin, found in milk thistle, programmed cell death in breast cancer.

“Early laboratory studies show that silymarin and other active substances in milk thistle may have anticancer effects. These substances appear to stop cancer cells from dividing and reproducing, shorten their lifespan, and reduce blood supply to tumors.” - University of Maryland Medical Center

Personally though, I love it for its allergy-fighting properties! If your poor pet is constantly itching and scratching, milk thistle can help!

According to The Truth Cause of Allergies – It’s In The Liver:

“The liver has to process toxins and when it can’t do its job it stores them. If it stores them it also produces additional histamines to protect itself. If an allergen is present the brain sends a message: ‘Send out a few histamines! I think there’s an invader!!’ and the liver proceeds it releases too many, and you have the allergic response. Cleanse the liver and maybe [...] you’ll become allergy/asthma free.”

Dosages:

Use ¼ of a teaspoon per 20lbs of body weight.

ATTENTION Pet Parents!

A chemical used in Milk-Bones, Ol’Roy, Kibbles’n Bits, Hill’s Pet Food and other pet foods should no longer be considered safe for consumption due to concerns about its ability to damage DNA according to a new animal-model study.

According to the Environmental Working Group: “A scientific panel created by the European Food Safety Authority found that titanium dioxide “can no longer be considered as safe when used as a food additive.” The panel, citing concerns about titanium dioxide’s genotoxicity, or its ability to damage DNA, based its conclusion on a review of hundreds of scientific studies. EWG called on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to quickly consider whether to ban titanium dioxide from use in food."

A chemical that may damage our pet's DNA should not be fed to pets.

Air fresheners can emit and generate a range of potentially hazardous air pollutants, many of which are listed on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste List⚠️ (keep reading for our safe DIY alternatives). The chemicals used in many room sprays have been associated with adverse effects on human health, including migraine headaches, asthma attacks, skin reactions, infant illness, and in some cases carcinogenic changes🧬, but what about our pets? 🐶

Our dogs share our living experiences 🏠, inhaling the same air and exposed to the same pollutants. They also suffer the same health consequences, but many animals cannot escape indoor environments with polluted air.

For an easy DIY home fragrance, create an aromatic stove-top simmer pot using your favorite herbs and spices:
· Bring a pot of water to a soft boil and add one of these Seasonal DIY scents (or create your own):

· Seasonal DIY scents:
🎃Fall: apple slices with peel, 2 cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, ground nutmeg, you can also replace water with apple cider
🌲Holiday: fresh cranberries, 1/2 orange slices with peel, 2 cinnamon sticks, whole cloves
🌱Spring: 2 bay leaves, 3 sprigs of rosemary, lemon slices, a few drops of vanilla extract
☀️Summer: grapefruit slices, 3 lavender sprigs, a few drops of almond extract

· After adding your aromatics, reduce heat and simmer for 2-3 hours, adding additional water if necessary.

Natural, REAL, WHOLE food is best! Fillers, GMOs, and too much dry grain can be too heavy in unhealthy carbs.
Several years ago our dog was recovering from Vestibular Disease and we watched him go from being so dizzy that he could barely walk to running and eating again. He lived to see his 13th birthday!

Natty no more.
Friends, I need some help! I am going to select a new name for my dog treat biz. Although there was nothing like it when I chose the name Natty Bones Bakery, (Natty for "Natural") - and I thought it was cute, I want and need something new. I registered the name years ago, and it was all mine. No other entity used the name (besides Natty beer, LOL!!!) Now there is a roller derby team with that name (serious LOL!!) and some other stuff has popped up over the years that I just don't want associated with. Any of you who have fur babies lucky enough to enjoy some of these amazing treats know the name means nothing. It's the love and great ingredients I put in them that make them amazing. Now that I am in Alabama, I am going to make a fresh start and start (slowly) reintroducing by opening a shop (finally!) on Etsy. But I need a new and cute name! It's always fun to name after your pets. Right now I have Toga, Ernie and Lucy. I think Ernie's Biscuits is kinda catchy. Or Toga's Treats? Y'all help me come up with a new name! If I use your name, you get a free treats!
