IT IS TOO HOT TO WALK YOUR DOG

Just to play it safe we will say from 9am to 9pm it is too hot to walk your dog.

Put the top of your hand on the concrete for 10 seconds and if you can’t keep it there or it feels pretty uncomfortable, it is too hot for your dog’s paws.
Please keep your dogs safe. And hydrated!

Look Out!

Keep an eye out for foxtails and goat heads!

Dogs easily get these weeds stuck in their fur and it can cause many problems.
These can get lodged into the skin and create swelling and irritation and may have to be removed by a vet.
Be careful where you walk your furry friend!

SUMMER TIME part 2

It is too hot to leave your dog in your car even with your windows rolled down.
Please keep your doggies inside your nice air conditioned home.

If you can’t leave your doggie at home by himself for a few hours, we provide day care so you can run your errands with the peace of mind that your pup is safe and cool.

SUMMER TIME

Hi everyone!
Here’s your yearly reminder to please keep your pets safe from the heat.

For those of you who walk your dogs, please try out this little trick to see if the ground is too hot for your dog. Personally, I hold my hand down for about 7 to 10 seconds just to be sure. Or you could get up early when it’s still cool outside or wait until the evening after it has cooled. 🐶🐱🐾
I’d even be careful the booties. Heat can still go through them. Protect those toe beans

Happy Spring!
It’s that time of year.

This is the time everyone wants to get their pets in for grooming after a long winter. I’m sure a lot of you have noticed we’ve already been booking out a week in advance. We are so grateful for all of our old clients and we welcome all of our new clients!
As we grow, we ask to please be sure to book your appointment ahead of time. We work very hard to get everyone in as soon as possible but we are out numbered.

The best way to get the appointment you want is to book your next appointment before you take your doggie home during your current appointment.
What does that look like? You would book 6 to 8 weeks out for your next appointment. Getting on a routine for grooming not only helps you, not only helps us, but helps your fur babies the most. Booking every 6 to 8 weeks is the sweet spot to best maintain the grooming of your pet.

If booking that far out doesn’t work for you, I do recommend calling at least 2 weeks in advance to get the spot you want. Saturdays fill up the fastest and might fill up 3 weeks out. Please plan accordingly.

If you have any questions or concerns please give us a call or message us.

Thank you.🐶🐱🐾

Let me introduce myself

My name is Desteni Dyer-Cruz and as many of you know I am the new owner of Canine Cottage. I’d like to tell you a little about myself but first I’d like to talk about the shop and my grandma, Maria.

Maria bought Canine Cottage over 30 years ago when it was just starting out as a grooming shop. Before that it was a veterinary clinic owned by Dr. Stodtmeister.
Maria worked many jobs but she loved working with animals. She started out by working at a few grooming shops starting from the bottom and worked her way up learning from groomers before her. After about a year managing Canine Cottage for the previous owner, she finally got to buy the shop. She become the owner in December of 1991 and worked incredibly hard to make it what it has become today.

Now to tell you a little about myself. I am 26 years old and Maria’s first granddaughter. I basically grew up at Canine Cottage. I’m sure some of our older customers can remember my little sister and me running around the shop and answering the phone.
I have always loved animals and always been interested in working with them. Before I came to work at the shop full time, I worked at a shelter and was able to learn so much about animals and had training on not only how to handle animals but also got educated on animal behavior. I was the lead of the dog department and I enjoyed my time there very much. I gained knowledge not only in animals but also in management.
I have a few certifications related to animal behavior, management and owning a pet spa. I will continue to further my education to ensure I am up to date on the latest information about our furry friends.
I’m dedicated to this shop and would like to go another 31 years and pass it on to my grandkids.

I’d like the thank my grandma for all her hard work and sacrifices she made for this shop. Because of you Witta, I have such a wonderful opportunity.

Hi everyone. I’m sure you’ve heard by now that there is an unknown virus going around getting our furry friends sick. Nevada is among one of the states that has this virus now.
We would like to assure you that we sanitize our kennels daily and with the virus going around, we will be sanitizing each time a dog leaves the kennel whether we put him back in the same one or not. We do not house dogs together-they each get their own space.
Here are symptoms you should look out for
SYMPTOMS
Coughing
Sneezing
Discharge from nose
Lethargy

If your pet has any of these symptoms, please keep your pet home and away from other animals.

Here are the states: Nevada, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington

If you have any questions or hesitations, please reach out to us. Canine Cottage is taking every precaution to keep your pets safe. And Happy Holidays. 🐶🐱🐾

Here’s some information on matting. This is why we have to default to a full shave down if your dog is matted. It’s simply not healthy for your pet. And dematting is a painful process we do not want to put your pet through. If you see your dog has matting, or even feel that it does, please do not wash him/her at home because it will make the matting worse. Please don’t attempt to brush out your dog when it’s already matted. The easiest way to prevent matting is brushing your dog at home or bringing your doggie to get groomed regularly. Don’t have time to brush out your dog but it just got a bath? Bring your pet in and we will do the brushing for you. Starting at $10 (for a full brush out) https://thedognest.com/matted-dog-hair-why-its-dangerous-and-how-to-prevent-it/ here’s a link to the website to give you more insight on matting.

WINTER GROOMING

Hi everyone! As winter starts to set in, we know a lot of you like to keep your pet’s hair long. We just want to remind you that you don’t have to come for a hair cut but you can come for a Bath&Brush. We actually recommend it! That’ll help us help you maintain your pets hair so it doesn’t get matted by summer time.

A Bath&Brush includes bath, blow out, brush, nail trim, ear cleaning, a**l glands and sanitary trim (sani trim upon request)

And we know a lot of our customers like to put sweaters on their pets to keep them extra warm and that’s wonderful! We would just like to remind you to only keep the sweater on when they are outside and take it off when they are inside.
Keeping doggie clothes on your pets causes the dogs fur to get matted which then leaves us no choice but to shave them down short.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call or DM us! 🐶🐱🐾

We have added two groomers to our grooming team! Minerva and Rosa are still around on their usual days but now we’ve got two eager people ready to move up.

Edgardo has been with us for 2 years helping the groomers wash, dry and brush our furry friends. He is also the main Kennel Tech working with the boarding dogs.

Grayson is our newest edition to the team and has been with us for 7 months now. Grayson worked with dogs before deciding to join us here at Canine Cottage.

These two are learning how to groom and we would love your help! Every groomer started out with a first. Be these groomers first!

By trusting us to train these groomers, we would like to offer a discount while they are learning. We have a few days reserved just for the trainees.
Tuesday Nov. 28th
Tuesday Dec. 5th
Tuesday Dec. 12th
Two spots are available at 8 am and two available at 12 pm on each of those days.

We do ask that if you know your pet is a little more on the anxious side and needs to be muzzled, please leave those pets to our experienced groomers until we get a few more dogs under the belts of our new groomers.

If you would still like to support these groomers in training on a day that is not listed, please ask for a trainee when you call to make an appointment.

Thank you all so much for your support. 🐶🐱🐾
