I want to remind everyone I can come to your place and work with you and your horse. I like starting horses not breaking them.

🌟 Exciting day at First Times Farm! 🌟
Jim enjoyed the very first ride on this stunning Morgan horse. No rodeo here—just a well-prepared, magnificent horse showing off its gentle nature and training.

🐴 At First Times Farm, mastering the art of horseback riding included having a relaxed seat.
Feeling tense? Remember to breathe and let your body move with the horse. Focus on relaxing your muscles so your seat can melt in to the saddle. A relaxed seat helps you stay balanced, connected, and safe in the saddle.

Riding a horse can be an incredible experience, but fear and control are often challenges riders face.
In "Riding Fear Free," Laura Daley and Jennifer Becton emphasize the importance of understanding and managing fear to build a strong, trusting partnership with your horse. They suggest focusing on breathing to help both rider and horse feel more confident and in control.
At First Times Farm, you will hear us reminding you to breathe.
*Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, breathe out for 4 seconds*
By doing this, you are slowing your heart rate, becoming present in the moment, and calming your nervous system.
By addressing fear head-on, you can truly enjoy your time in the saddle!

🌞 Good morning, everyone! 🌞
What are your plans for today? The rain has finally stopped, and we plan to take full advantage of the sunshine here at First Times Farm!
We’re kicking off the day with a client visit, followed by caring for Corbin’s hoof. Later, we’re excited for a horse show and maybe even a trail ride!
Whatever you do today, make it a good day! 🌿🐴

Lower demands -
This is what thousands of troubled horses have been trying to teach me for years.
Less rules, more principle: calm, forward, straight.
In my 20s, I was prone to drilling, although I didn’t realize it. I had a way that everything should be done by the horse, and if they didn’t do it that way, it was repeated until it was right: going in and out of the stall just so, standing to be mounted just so, stopping just so. I’m certain I drove many horses crazy, though I got decent results.
It wasn’t really until I had enough horses who’s brains and bodies were fried from being over trained- I learned to accept a lot less, and let go of a lot more. I stopped worrying so much about the rules and had a much happier crew- they didn’t always do everything perfectly, but they were safe and calm to handle.
There are some things I’m a stickler about: haltering softly, leading softly to name a few. Some things who’s meaning carry great importance to the bigger picture and are worth the care and detail.
Many things though I simply let go and think bigger picture: what are my principles? It always comes back to calm, forward, straight. Anything that facilitates that, I’m happy.

"No hoof, no horse and why we take care of hoof problems right away”🐴🦶
Healthy hooves are the foundation of a happy, healthy horse. The hoof supports the horse's weight (ours are 900-1200 pounds!), absorbs shock, provides traction, but did you know it also aids in circulation by pumping blood back up the leg with each step. Without strong, well-maintained hooves, horses can experience pain, mobility issues, infection, and overall health problems.
This is why Corbin will be closely monitored and cared for while he is recovering.

When it’s a spa day, but you hate spa days :(
(Corbin has a sore foot that is getting an epsom salt soak, poor baby)

Sometimes we get to take some time away. Today we took two of the grandkids to Despicable Me 4! Of course a trip to McDonald’s after for a minion toy.

🌿✨ Exploring Animal Reiki at First Times Farm✨🌿
At First Times Farm, we're always looking for ways to enhance the well-being of our beloved animals. That is why Nikki, a Holy Fire 3 Karuna Reiki Master, provides Animal Reiki for our equine friends. Reiki is a gentle and non-invasive healing practice that promotes relaxation and balance.
Reiki, which means "universal life energy," can be especially beneficial for our horses, helping to reduce stress, alleviate pain, and support overall health. By creating a calming and harmonious energy field, Animal Reiki sessions can improve the physical and emotional well-being of our equine friends.
We're thrilled to incorporate this holistic approach into our care routine, ensuring our animals receive the best possible support for their health and happiness. 🐴💖
