The MCAS Foundation developed, in large part, to start helping raise money for a new building. Not only is our building old, outdated and in need of safer layout updates, but we're also in a less-than-ideal location at this point.
Being surrounded by our County's highway department means year-round machinery noise that can affect the stress levels in our shelter dogs, and during the winter months we're directly adjacent to the salt/sand mixture which is unsafe to breathe in and blows into our play yards and kennels. The noise factor alone has caused many dogs the same fear reaction as thunder or fireworks.
We know a lot of our highway dept. workers are dog lovers, and they've got a job to do, which we appreciate! However, being in such an industrial setting isn't what these shelter dogs deserve. We can't wait to see what the Foundation can do to grow and help us get even closer to the goal of a new building in a quieter, more animal-friendly setting!
Be sure to follow the MCAS Foundation page to be up to date on upcoming fundraising opportunities! You can also reach out to them about direct donations towards this cause.
Fear is expressed in many ways. Buddy expressed his by hiding and shaking. Pork Chop expressed his with a combination of growling, snapping and cowering. Moose expressed his with aggression, which was his way of saying "please let me be". All of these are OK! And all are understandable. Animals communicate in all kinds of different ways, just like people.
When we say "give them time", this is an example of what we mean. Some animals need extra time to feel settled or content. You might not see their full personality right away.
All three boys recovered, rehabilitated, learned to trust and became their happy, goofy, playful selves! Buddy was adopted, and Pork Chop & Moose are both available for adoption.
This year, we're thankful for our entire team of staff, volunteers and trainers who help these sweet babies every day!
Adoptables Pinny & Pan were reunited today for play time! When they arrived together, Pinny went into heat. After Pan's neuter, they were back to play time!

Can you believe that two adorable puppies like Finley & Felix have been in a shelter setting for over a month now? As much as Ivy enjoys her babysitting duties, she would be happy to see them get adopted so she can take a nap 😏

Adoptable pup Raven settling in to her 2nd day of Dog School at Fun Fur Pets Training Program ! This is such a great way to help adoptable dogs like Raven who are highly intelligent and driven, and may not handle the shelter life as well if their brain isn't properly stimulated.
We love how she made sure to stop for some hooman kisses in the middle of training (and during all those distractions!)
Raven will continue to go to dog school weekly until she finds a home, and our hope is that her future family will continue to let this potential shine!
