*** Do you trust your dog off the leash? ***
Do you wish you had a little bit more confidence that you would be able to recall your dog in any situation?
My dogs get so much more fulfillment when they are able to run free instead of always being restricted on a leash. Ecollar training has given myself and my dogs this freedom. With proper training and understanding of the tool any dog is able to enjoy this freedom! If you are interested in learning more about the process of off leash training your dog reach out and sign up for my private lessons or board and train program, and enjoy more time off leash this summer!
Practice overcoming obstacles with your dog! Teaching your dog to follow directions using obstacles will help your dog feel more confident following your direction on all different surfaces and in all different situations. Great job sophie!!!
*Trainer tip* Watch our newest video for examples on teaching your dog to "wait" and "leave it" in different scenarios. This can be practiced in your day to day routine and is an key exercise in teaching your dog impulse control. Pair your wait command with a release word such as "free, okay or break" to give them permission to proceed.
Pro tip #6: Dog introductions. Most people dont realize it but most dog fights/ negative interactions happen while on leash. The problem is with us and how we introduce our pups. You must take the interaction slow. Control your dog, clearly communicate with the other owner, read each dogs body language, stay relaxed, get your dogs to go nose to tail, loose leash, and when finished call your dog away. Follow these steps for great dog interactions.
Jixxer has completed his training and is headed home with a great new foundation of obedience, household manners and leash skills.
****Update**** Drax has completed his training program working against his reaction issues and here are the results. He still has a ways to go to get over all fears but look at how far he has come!
Foster dog Freya is mastering her off-leash recall. Look at this smart girl!!!
Pro Tip #5 Pressure isn't a bad thing! I use pressure in my training techniques whether it be spacial pressure, leash pressure, or verbal pressure. Pressure can be a great tool to use while teaching your pup new skills, this helps communicate very clearly what is allowed and what isn't. The key to success while using pressure is to
1. Teach your pup pressure doesn't mean punishment it means adjustment.
2. Once they adjust the pressure will go away.
3. Always give your pup a chance to learn/respond without any pressure. Only add pressure after the first command.
This is freya learning to follow pressure on the leash, as you can see by the end of the video she realizes the way to not run in to the pressure is to follow direction.
Pro Tip #4 With bad weather coming you may wonder how to walk your pup on a rainy day? We hit the stores that allow pups! Check out your local, pet friendly stores on gloomy days to work on leash walking, obedience, socialization and desensitization. Be considerate when visiting these places and please bring clean up supplies in case of an accident.
These quick pups are now part of the 100 yard club! If you'd like to take on the challenge with your friends share this post and post your own video of the you and your pups success. Tag Modified K9 Corp. , lets see who can do it!!!
