Looking for a new horse? Want an amazing breed that is versatile and loyal? Want to help a horse who has been thrown away after years of making money for previous owners/trainers? The Standardbred Retirement Foundation works tirelessly to pull Standardbreds from kill pens and place them in their forever homes. These horses, through no fault of their own, end up in kill pens after they are no longer "useful" to their owners. Many are teen or aged horses, some may have past injuries, some may have current injuries, but they ALL have one thing in common, they are one of the best breeds that you will ever meet. Loyal to a fault, versatile, will give you their all and then some. I've never met a Standardbred that I didn't like and I worked the with them on the track for many years. These horses are used to standing in cross-ties for hours at a time, regular visits from farriers and veterinarians, regular blood pulls, insane amount of tack going all over the place, frequent long hauls to race tracks, staying in unfamiliar barns, etc. They tend to be quiet and kind hearted. From english to western, jumping to driving, they excel at whatever you ask of them and they need our help.
