🌟 Pet Spotlight of the Month: Echo🌟
This month’s feature is a very special Savannah Monitor, Echo, who was sadly abandoned at our shop last month. After a thorough exam with our trusted exotic vet, it was verified that he is suffering from severe Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD). He will now require a liquid diet and daily liquid calcium to support his recovery.
💡 What is Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD)?
MBD is one of the most common and preventable illnesses in reptiles. It occurs when they don’t receive proper UVB lighting and calcium supplementation. Without these essentials, their bodies cannot process calcium correctly, leading to soft or deformed bones, weakness, and in severe cases, difficulty eating or moving.
🔦 How to Prevent MBD:
• ✅ Provide strong UVB lighting (replace bulbs every 6–12 months)
• ✅ Dust feeders with calcium powder and provide a calcium-rich diet
• ✅ Feed a balanced diet specific to Savannah Monitors, not just insects
• ✅ Keep up with regular exotic vet visits
Though his start was rough, he’s now receiving the love and care he deserves thanks to our devoted reptile keeper, Nick, who stepped up to save Echo. 💚 Thank you, Nick!
Echo’s story is a reminder that proper husbandry saves lives. MBD is preventable, and we hope his journey helps spread awareness so other reptiles never have to suffer. 🦎
