Dear Friends and Supporters of Dogs Fur Days,
We hope this message finds you and your four-legged companions well. It is with a bittersweet sentiment that we’re writing to you today to share some significant news about our journey at DFD.
Over the past nine years, we've experienced countless moments of joy and triumph, challenges, and heartwarming transformations, all of which were made possible by your unwavering support and faith in our mission. Together, we have successfully saved and enriched the lives of 503 dogs. This achievement is a testament to the power of our community, and every single one of these dogs has left a permanent paw print on our hearts.
However, the reality of sustaining such a heartfelt endeavor is complex, and despite our best efforts, we find ourselves facing two critical shortages that no rescue organization wants to confront: lack of foster homes and insufficient funding. As a result, it is with a heavy heart that we've made the difficult decision to close DFD and shift to fostering for other rescues.
We will be manually cancelling automatic PayPal payments as a part of our end of operations. The small amount of remaining funds we have will be channeled into helping low-income individuals by covering the costs of spaying and neutering their pets. This, we believe, is a fitting tribute to our ongoing commitment to the welfare of dogs, even as our chapter as an independent rescue comes to a close.
We want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for your time, energy, contributions, and above all, your unwavering belief in the work we were doing. We are truly grateful for your partnership.
In the future, we urge you all to continue to support local animal shelters and rescues, and never underestimate the difference your kindness can make to a dog in need.
Our social media will remain available as we wrap up operations.
We continue to look for a great home for Deuce, though he’s welcome to stay at HQ if we can’t find any takers! There will be fostering for other groups in our future!

A much-loved chi mix adopted from us has gone missing in the El Cajon area, near Main and Madison. Please keep an eye out for this sweet girl and message us if you may have seen her. Her mom loves her very very much.

Results are in! We chose Embark’s health and breed panel—not just because it’s interesting but because breed information can help with behavioral training and potential health issues can be identified. 🐕

Deuce is growing up at HQ, 32 lbs now and 6 months old. We’re doing all we can to make sure he’s well-rounded, which of course means taking him to wineries as often as possible. 😂

Eleni is now Quinn and has officially been adopted by our amazing veterinarian. Here she is in her office, admiring her adoptive mom.
We are over the moon with this stroke of luck. 💜🐕

Over the last month our sweet Moby has declined significantly due to his end-stage kidney disease. Instead of bopping around the house, soliciting attention and playing with stuffies, he began sleeping almost all the time, hiding in cubbies, closets, and sheds. This week he lost his appetite and began passing blood in his stool, so our vet sent him over the 🌈 in my arms this morning.
I want to express my appreciation to everyone who funded his VSH specialty consults, the various treatments we attempted, and his food and supplements.
He had almost a year with us and his consummate sweetness and light will live in our hearts always.
Love to Becca and Alexis who also fostered our poodley prince.
Rest easy sweet boy. 🌈

Drats and rats.
Soon after rescuing 1-yr old Eleni from Ensenada, we noticed a limp. We got her to the vet on Friday expecting a torn ligament but no—her hip is a hot mess—probably hit by a car as a pup and everything reconfigured in a messy way.
Eleni is staying with our wonderful veterinarian as she gathers ortho consults.
This won’t be an easy peasy fix, but she’s landed in the right hands.

Please welcome Eleni to the DFD family! She arrived a few days ago from Ensenada and has been settling in well at HQ. She’s 1-2 years old and appears to be a cattle dog/red heeler.
She has a nice temperament, behaves well in public spaces, walks on leash, and potties outside. She is especially fond of puppy Deuce, and they wrassle a few times a day.

This week Deuce completed his Good Citizenship classes through @sits_getting_real and this boy made us proud! Teaching “touch” instead of “come” is an absolute game-changer! (And Deuce’s nose bonk is always a serotonin boost.) 💜🐕

Omg Anita already has multiple folks interested in her! We are a bit shocked to be honest (mid-size adult dogs aren’t exactly hot commodities) but so excited for her! 🤞🤞🤞

Every once in a while, a uterus just isn’t where it’s supposed to be—this was the case with Portia, so her spay was tougher than most. Thankfully she had an experienced surgeon who didn’t just assume she’d been spayed prior and close her up. As usual, she just wants is to be nearby and get loved up. She will be adoptable in a week, so please fill out an application on our website if you’re interested! She’s around 3, 15 lbs, walks on a leash, shy with new people, good with dogs her size (she fusses around 80-lb Donut sometimes), barks rarely, potties outside (an occasional slip up if the dog door is closed), and a very calm at-home temperament. She even exercises herself if she’s not walked with a quick round of zoomies in the yard! She has not lived with cats, but she shows no prey drive with Guinea pigs so we think she’d be fine.
