Very hard to tell in photos but in princess peaches has grown!!

When the only way you can transfer you giant day geckos is to trap them in a little fish bowl then place them in the tank so they don’t try to make a run for it.

Big mamba is going into “blue” right now.

Going into “blue” means the snake is going to start shedding. The name came from the blue color that their eyes turn when they start the process.

The greyish blue color on the snake and the milky appearance of its eyes are caused by a lubricant that builds up between the top layer of skin and the new skin underneath. This liquid is vital for the snake to have a successful shed.

During this time, it’s very hard for them to see, therefore, they tend to struggle to eat or have no interest due to their limited vision.

I was hanging out with Mushu and caught a picture of his Spurs.

Fun little fact.

Pelvic spurs, also known as vestigial legs, are reduced forms of the leg bones of ancient snakes ancestors.

Pelvic spurs are small bony projections, also known as rudimentary legs, which are located on the pelvic girdle of some snakes. They appear to be remnants of legs that were present in the ancient ancestors of some snake species.

Some snakes, such as the members of the python family like Mushu, have these that serve as their reduced forms of the leg bones of their ancient ancestors. These spurs, however, are usually not used to help them move around but rather as an indicator of s*x and to help during mating.

When snakes eat their heart double in size, a few other organs enlarge, and the blood rate increases, after 24 hours the food has started passing to the stomach, after 48 hours all the organs have went back to normal size and blood flow is going back to flow of resting state.

(That’s the real reason we say don’t handle 48 hours after feeding) to fully digest the meal can take 5-7 days depending on size of the meal, temperature where the snake is digesting, and snake activity.

With all this going on the actual process of digestion not only pulls nutrients from the prey item for energy but from the snakes body as well!

So last night at 7pm, we were asked to pick up 7 leopard geckos. Once I arrived home, I
Realized…. There were 9 GECKOS!!

6 out of 9 of these guys are enigmas. 2 out of 9 have MBD (per previous owner) and 2 out of 9 have short tails.

These guys will be available for adoption February 4th. If you’d be interested in adopting one of these guys please message us.
