Hi everyone!! To start this off, I want to say thank you to all the people out there that have came across my betta page and gave my page a like! Because of you all, we have officially reached 1,000 likes on Facebook!! Again, thank you all so much!!

Now on to the hard part; due to the unforeseen future, I will no longer be contributing into rescue, unless there happens to be a opportunity to start again. Although I may not be rescuing anymore, I will start doing daily (at least as daily as I can be) posts! These posts would consist of information for betta care, health and wellness, and will even get back in the groove of Illness Files to continue providing the best information for your betta’s health and happiness!

Once again, thank you to all the people who follow and give support to the page and I look forward to providing awesome information for the wellbeing of your betta, whether it’s your very first or an addition to your current betta hobby!

Hi everyone, I hope you missed me!

I bet everyone has been wondering where I had been as I had taken a long pause since certain events had risen, causing me to take a break, but I have an announcement to make!

Starting sometime in February of 2023, Lucky Betta Rescue should be back in full swing again with new rescues coming in!

For anyone who didn’t know, Lucky Betta Rescue had been ran by one person; but as the rescue starts back up, an additional helper will be joining to help improve the lives of our rescues.

If anyone has any questions, don’t be afraid to reach out! I am looking forward to coming back and rescuing more precious bettas!

Everyone meet our newest rescue! This fella was rescue/surrender situation as this guy was kept in a bowl. The family was moving and couldn’t take him with.

For living in a bowl, his health is pretty good, but his fins are very stunted, making them look clamped.

Hopefully this guy can show improvement in the fins in hopes we can see some growth. Wish this new fella some luck!

These two are adoption ready!

1) Meet Mohawk!

Mohawk is a red doubletail that is FULL of energy, enough to bring a ton of excitement into your life! He is very friendly and will happily greet your at the front of his tank. His fins are still growing in from after his Fin Rot treatment but he is in the clear! This fella needs a minimum of 5 gallons to keep this fella stimulated and happy. Snails can make awesome tank mates but other fish will need serious consideration (20+ gallons recommended)

2) Meet Azul!

Azul is a very mellow fella that likes to peacefully explore new locations. He thinks he’s very tough but doesn’t have the guts to hurt a fly- or, maybe he would? Either way, he is very gentle and a very sweet boy! A minimum of 5 gallons is recommended for this fella as he needs to be in a well-decorated tank to feel comfortable to explore. He had healed from his Fin Rot as well.

Both these bettas have severe Fin Rot. They were being treated at the store but were not responding to treatment.

If anyone is interested in adopting one or both of these guys, or, have any questions regarding them, please fill out an application or send us a message.

An update on the newest betta rescues; they are both improving very well, especially the red fella!

Their lights have been off at all times (except when I check on them) and they are almost done with their first treatment. There is still infection present so I may need to do a second round of medication to ensure the infection is gone. They are both eating very well and are also eh responsive!

02/14/2022

Hello everyone; I am here to update you all about the two new rescues, for those who had seen their pictures on my story. For those who hasn’t seen it, here is the back story:

These two bettas have been at Petco for awhile. Before anyone can say they weren’t cared for before, I’ll let you know that treatment has been done and the infection was too aggressive. But these two bettas were treated and cared for with no success of healing. With that being said, they are now being cared for severe fin rot (one may have possible neurological issues).

So far they had made it through the night and were given their first dose of treatment today. Their lights have been turned off to keep them stress-free and will be given frozen food to help their immune systems. They won’t be put into our adoptable betta list for the first few days as these first few days are very critical and don’t want to give any false hope to those interested in their adoption.

If they both show improvement, a updated post will be done, meaning they are about ready for adoption!

Please keep these two in your thoughts as they begin their healing process ❤️

I know I haven’t really posted much about Star, but it is about time! Star’s foster parents have decided to adopt to lucky girl ❤️ Star is so lucky to have them and they do amazing with her care since her eye has been slowly improving. Here’s a video in her home being her spunky self!

*Please excuse the cloudy water, the tank was just cleaned

Hello everyone! Just thought this would be the perfect time for an update.

Firstly, if you remember the most recent rescue I have, I had decided to name him Tui. Sadly, Tui had past on Christmas Eve. I had went to check on the fish and Tui never came out to greet me. I saw him laying still on the substrate. When I moved the structure he was lifeless (he was also pineconed, in which was not present the day before.

Secondly, Neptune is officially pending for his adoption! He will be going home to a young woman in Lowell on Thursday who is awaiting his arrival! Neptune has been with me since he was a little nugget and seeing that someone is ready to take this fella home fills me with joy! Because he is going home, there should hopefully be room for the next rescue. For anyone who is wanting to adopt, I still have SunShine available, longing for her forever home. Star is currently in a foster-care position getting the best care of her foster family. She currently is doing great besides her one eye being a little cloudy but should hopefully clear up no problem! Besides the cloudiness, the swelling in her eye is going down, meaning she should be ready for adoption when the swelling has went down completely.

And thirdly, we have a new family member! His name is Bruce (yes, I named him after the shark in Finding Nemo). He is a King Betta who is currently living with my juvenile guppies and he does amazing!! Talk about the quote of “fish are friends, not food!”. Bruce is such a cutie and loves to be looked at. In the future, there will be a picture of him but for now, we have the famous Neptune ❤️

Meet our newest rescue! We don’t have a name yet (I have ideas though!) so I’ll be putting up a poll for deciding his name! If you have any name ideas, leave a comment down below!

As you can see, he has big fins- the previous owner says he has some wonky swimming but could be that his fins are heavy to drag around. For now, we will be placed under our two week observation period to ensure he’s healthy and should be ready soon!

Today marks the beginning of the foster program! Star, who has been with us for awhile due to her eye has been picked up by her new foster family!

At some point, she should be available for adoption if her eye does eventually heal; there will be info about that later.

Hi everyone!! I hope everyone is doing great!

It’s been awhile since I’ve done anything with the Illness Files but here’s something that I find to be super useful for anyone!

The Use of Salt!

I know it may not be an illness but this information helps with many possible illnesses and is always nice to have on hand 😁

I said I was going to give an update, so here that update!

I feel really bad that I haven’t been posting, mainly because 1) I have a job at a fish store where my job is to take care of their fish and 2) there hasn’t been anything new and exciting going on with any of the rescues.

They are of course all still happy and healthy and waiting for their forever home, except for Star, who is under long-term care for her eye as there is still not positive or negative change.

If you are interested in adoption, Neptune and SunShine is available for local pickup (Springfield/Eugene, OR) or if you are looking to show support, check out the rescue’s website to check out our stickers or handmade betta caves!

We are also looking to get more things on the website so keep a lookout for that!

Here’s a picture of one of the many Jewel Cichlids we have for adoption at my fish store!

Okay everyone, here is a morning update on our newest betta!

We have named her Cali (at least a family member did) and there has been decision to keep her.

In the video, you can see that her tail tends to drag (this has been an issue since she had arrived at Petco) but overall she is very active and a very happy girl (Cali was also labeled as a “Koi Male” which has been proved incorrect by the visible ovaries).

She has gotten a good breakfast and is as happy as can be! Let’s give Cali some wishes as she starts her journey towards improvement!

New rescue, who dis?!

Everyone meet our newest rescue! This betta is one that I’ve been connecting with for awhile as he has been at Petco for around a month. Ever since this fella got there, there’s been constant issues with swimming. Just today I had noticed that his slime coat has been coming off so that was where I drew the line as this poor baby has had enough. They’re currently acclimating to their tank and will post an update post after this baby has gotten comfortable

This baby was also labeled as a “Koi Male” but is most likely a female as this bettas has ovaries (there is even an egg spot)

Haven’t posted anything in awhile so I might as well share a picture of a frog climbing 🐸 Really love these guys so much! In fact, I have two baby frogs who are just the cutest things in the world!

When these babies get a bit older, they will need a home so if anyone is interested in taking both (they need to be in pairs) please don’t hesitate to let me know! (Local pickup only, or can meet up outside of my local area)

Hello Everyone!

I have two bettas who are ready for adoption!

The first one is SunShine! She was a surrender as the owner could no longer care for her. She looked to be having some swim bladder issues but has been doing great since. She is a GloBetta and could be around 1 year old as I don’t have a definite age. She’s very spunky and loves attention! 5+ gallons recommended. She also cannot have tank mates due to her aggression; larger snails are okay.

Second rescue we have is Neptune! He was a previous surrender but he was surrendered again by the person who had adopted him. He is very outgoing and also loves attention. Neptune is a Veiltail that has a wild color look to him and he is somewhere between 6-12 months old. 5+ gallons recommended. He cannot have tank mates due to aggression, may do okay with larger snails.

If anyone is interested in adopting either of these rescues, please reach out! If anyone is wanting to look at our adoptable betta list, I’ll leave the link below.

NOTE: Info about Star - she is still under observation because of her eye. She cannot do tank mates since she is prone to being picked on. Although she isn’t available for adoption, I can accept fostering as I will need to monitor her before she goes to her forever home. If anyone is interesting in fostering her, please let me know.

Tank rebuild!

This tank has been my guppy breeding tank for quite awhile now and I’m having to slowly restore it. About two-ish weeks ago, I had lost all of my guppies EXCEPT for 5 (1 male, 4 females).

How they died? There was planarian worms that were actually harming my guppies.

They were acting the way they would if they had parasites so I had used every parasitic medication I had. When I realized all the worms in the tank (which my partner had actually pointed out to me), that’s when I realized what was really going on!

Treated the tank with meds that kill these worms and everything had been fixed; one of my females even dropped 10 babies. I now have them in a basket so I can raise them up to rebuild the population (I’ll be getting some new guppies to open the gene pool).

Going to try live plants in this tank since I had to throw out the ones to had originally. The gravel is also going to be changed (had this gravel for a long time and it’s actually very hard to work with) and maybe change my filter later down the road since the way I have it set up is a bit weird 😅

As of today (9/16), Benny had crossed over the rainbow road 😔 although his prolapse was healing itself, other terminal problems started to persist as time when on. He was showing dropsy signs and had done everything I could to try and help him.

Benny was the most sweetest and loving betta I have ever met. When you look into his eyes, you could just see that he was full of love. I really wish this wasn’t the way it went for him as he had went through so much to keep him happy and healthy.

Fortunately, a family member wanted to take him in as they really loved Benny and really connected to him so he was in loving arms; this meant he was taken down from the adoption list.

Besides his prolapse being the main reason he was taken off, he had a very weak immune system (this is most likely from being in dirty water for a prolonged amount of time before he came to the rescue, or even his age being a factor) so every time there was a change in his tank, he would get sick, whether it was a parasite affecting him or even a bacterial infection.

Because of being sick all the time, it’s also very possible that his immune system was no longer responding the the medications he was needing to heal.

Rest In Peace Benny, you were very loved ❤️

Thought I would do a update on the 40 gallon tank I’ve been working on.

As far as fish go, the tank is complete! I may add more plants as I go but it’s looking pretty good! I had added some hornwort from another tank and even some moss. Glued some moss in my big rocks I have then added small rocks with moss on them as well to put on the substrate. I had also gotten a lid because of evaporation, but also because Peaches does jump when startled.

I really am loving how this tank is coming out and can’t wait to continue building it up!

09/06/2021

I have some upsetting news; Benny is once again going under observation. Today I have noticed he’s been lethargic and hiding, realizing that he has a prolapse. This little guy worries so much since he gets sick or has something happen to him very easily. I don’t want to give up on him but it’s very possible that he may need a small space to himself in hopes he can get better. Please wish Benny luck in hopes he will feel better soon. 😔❤️

09/02/2021

I’m sure it was well forgotten but Cherry and Benny can be adopted now since I wanted to ensure they were both healthy after fixing the filtration issue in the tank. Benny did get that internal infection again so I had to treat him for that but he is all good now!

As for my guppy tank; a parasite had taken over and had already wiped out a few adult guppies and a ton of juvenile guppies. It was so weird though since I had treated for both internal and external but I think the new medication I have going on now will hopefully help so I guess I’ll get to pick out a few more males and females!

Peaches and her tank mate friends are doing amazing in the 40 gallon! Peaches had gained more color with her swimmy fins growing bigger since she is a elephant ear. My baby catfish I raised have also been growing and doing very well. I currently have a basket of ADF tadpoles who are having a better success is growth as I have 3 that have their back legs fully developed along with their front legs coming in. There are some tadpoles that are still waiting for their back legs to come in.

Lastly, Max has been doing well except for the fact he destroyed his beautiful tail. To be honest, it was very long and flowing so I’d think it was getting very heavy to carry around his tank.

08/31/2021

I haven’t posted anything in awhile as I’ve been busy with things but have also been closely monitoring Star and her eye. For awhile, I was worried she would lose her eye as it looked to have gotten more infected than before until this morning, the infection went away and her eye has shrunk in size. Of course I’ll continue to watch as she heals but she would be ready for her future home very soon!

Update on Star: as you can see, the Popeye is still present after doing two sets of dosing meds and even salt baths. Because this is still going on, she will be monitored until we can find a solution foe her eye. Besides the Popeye, there is no lethargy and has been eating very well; she has even gained some color! Let’s keep wishing Star some luck in hope that we figure something out for her eye 😊

The filtration issue in the adoption-ready tank is all good now. I will still need to monitor them as Benny had gotten sick the last time I had to mess with the tank. It looks like Cherry is doing well so far and just exploring. Benny is kind of doing the Sam but is trying to find places to rest. I’ll be putting out another update when I believe they are ready
